Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc. Performance Company
2025 - 2026
What is the SYLAD Performance Company?
The Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc. Performance Company attends local events to perform relevant dances. Dancers learn dances on top of the typical performance and showcase dances to take to these public local events.
Who is invited to be on the SYLAD Performance Company?
All students registered at Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc. have the opportunity to be on the Performance Company. Select students who have shown hard work and commitment throughout any given dance season may obtain a “Purple Ticket” providing a partial scholarship to join the company.
How are students placed on the SYLAD Performance Company?
There are many factors when it comes to placement. Placement in the SYLAD Performance company is based on the following criteria: age, technique, commitment level, enthusiasm, attitude and behavior in class, attendance, and stage presence. We place students together in groups that we feel will work best together in rehearsals and performances.
What are the different levels to the SYLAD Performance Company?
Minis (Ages 3-4 years old)
Preps (Ages 5-8 years old)
Juniors (Ages 8-12 years old)
Apprentices (Ages 12-14 years old)
Seniors (Ages 14-18 years old)
*Age is a guideline only*
What are the different levels to the SYLAD Adaptive Performance Company?
Shining Stars (Ages 3-4 years old)
Shooting Stars (Ages 5-10 years old)
Super Stars (Ages 10-18 years old)
*Age is a guideline only*
When will the Performance Company begin?
We will have two options for start dates:
Summer (Classes start June 16th) with performances beginning in August.
Fall (Classes start August 11th) with performances beginning October.
*If joining in fall there may be times during August & September classes that students may be asked to sit and watch as the Summer team rehearses for a performance.
What is the time commitment to participate in the SYLAD Performance Company?
A dance company is a team. Just as sports teams require all players to attend practices,
dance companies require their dancers to attend all classes and rehearsals. Absences will not only affect the individual dancer, but the Company as a whole.
Each dancer is allowed up to two (2) unexcused absences from Company classes and rehearsals per half of year (June - July, August - December and January - May). Having more than 2 unexcused absences will result in not participating in the following performance. *Excused absences receive prior approval from the director; advance notice of absence does not mean it is excused. The following are considered “excused” absences:
Family emergency
Health (serious illness)
School event that is for credit
Wedding
Funeral
Religious Event
Dancers will watch company class/rehearsal in the case of injury or mild illness. These same rules apply to all other classes.
Punctuality is just as important as attendance, please be on time and prepared for class. Two (2) occurrences of tardiness will count as an unexcused absence. Tardiness is considered to be more than 5 minutes late.
Students should not miss more than three (3) of any other one class per half of the year (June - July, September - December and January - May); after which, the dancer may be dismissed from the Company. Dance requires consistent ongoing training, and dancers who excessively miss classes will not be able to perform at the same level as those who have attended all classes regularly. No refund of tuition payment shall be given in the event of dismissal and the balance of the uniform will be due immediately.
Company members must be present in ALL their classes and rehearsals the week prior to every performance.
Being a member of a dance company is a privilege and comes with responsibility. Personal accountability is essential for a successful season, and commitment to your other company members is a vital component of this success. When a member of the company is not present, it negatively impacts your entire team.

Juniors, Apprentices, and Seniors - Mondays at 7:15pm - 8:15pm

Shining Star, Shooting Star, and Super Star Company students are required to take (1) adaptive dance class. They DO NOT attend Performance Company Rehearsals, except for tech rehearsal on the Tuesday before a performance 5:30pm - 6:00pm.
The SYLAD Performance Company will attend a minimum of 4 local events per year. Please be aware that becoming a company member will obligate you to these performances. Performance weekends will be given out at least one (1) month ahead of time, however performance day/time are subject to event management and may not be announced until 5-7 days prior to the event. Dancers and parents will need to be available for the entire weekend until we know whether you are performing Saturday, Sunday or both. Some performance opportunities may pop up with less than one (1) month's notice, at which point a poll will be taken to see who is available to perform.
The SYLAD Performance company will be required to participate in the Winter and Spring Showcase.
Extra rehearsals may be called approaching a performance. Extra rehearsals will be held on Fridays or at other times that the studio’s schedule permits.
