What is the Nutcracker All Jazzed Up?

Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc.'s Nutcracker All Jazzed Up is a mid-year show in which students are able to showcase what they have learned thus far. Travel with Clara through the Land of Sweets as she dances her way into the Winter Season! Our Nutcracker performance is not just ballet, but includes ALL styles of dance that we teaching at Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc.! 

Who performs in the winter performance?

All students, with the exception of the Glow 'N Grow with Me class, registered in Shine Your Light Academy of Dance, Inc. classes before September 21st are invited to participate in our "Nutcracker All Jazzed Up" performance. Students registering after September 21st will not likely be permitted to perform in the winter performance as choreography will have already been started and adequate time may not be available for costumes, however they will be able to perform in our 2026 Spring Showcase.

What is the time commitment to perform in the winter performance?

Students must attend their weekly class(es) as this is where they will learn the choreography for the winter performance. Missing class two or more consecutive weeks between September 1st and the Winter Performance will likely result in being taken out of that section of the dance in which choreography was missed.

In addition to their weekly class(es) students must attend the MANDATORY dress rehearsal the Friday evening before the show. Dress rehearsal could take up to 4 hours depending on scheduling and location. Dress rehearsal and attendance the week leading up to the winter performance is mandatory so please ensure students are present. Missing dress rehearsal or class the week leading up to the winter performance may result in a dancer not being able to participate.

Students should also dedicate up to 5 hours to dance on performance day depending on scheduling and location.

What do dancers wear?

Hair:

Girls - Low Bun; if hair is too short to go in a bun pulled back off of face

Boys - Slicked back off of face

Make-Up*:

Girls - Neutral skin tone colors. Foundation, blush, and eye shadow recommended. Black or Brown eyeliner and mascara. Neutral colored lip stick unless told otherwise to be costume specific.

Boys - OPTIONAL: Neutral skin tone colored foundation and blush.

*Make-Up is OPTIONAL for all Level I and Preschool students*

Costumes:

All students will receive costumes to borrow for the performance. Measurements will be taken for costumes beginning October 6, 2025. These costumes MUST be returned at the end of the winter performance. 

*Costumes cannot be ordered until costume fee is paid in full and account is current.*

Tights:

Students should wear the tights listed with their costume for their specific class(es).

Shoes:

Students should wear the shoes listed in dress code for their specific class(es).

What is the financial commitment to perform in the winter performance?

Costume Rental Fee: $25 per class due October 3, 2025.

Participation Fee: $55 per dancer due October 18, 2025**

*All fees listed above are MANDATORY and NON-REFUNDABLE.*

Seating will be first come first serve. There are no tickets to watch our Nutcracker All Jazzed Up!
