Syracuse Crunch Set for Home Opener Against Belleville Senators on October 10

The countdown to hockey season in Syracuse is on.

The Syracuse Crunch will officially open their home schedule on Saturday, October 10, 2026, when they host the Belleville Senators at Upstate Medical University Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., marking the beginning of another exciting season in downtown Syracuse.

Home opener has long been one of the biggest nights on the Crunch calendar, bringing together a packed arena, pregame festivities, and the excitement of welcoming hockey back to Central New York. Fans can expect an electric atmosphere as the Crunch begin their quest for another Calder Cup Playoff run.

A Familiar Face Changes Sides

One of the biggest storylines entering opening night will be the presence of goaltender Mads Søgaard, who spent the past several seasons in the Ottawa Senators organization, primarily with Belleville, before signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning this summer. The 6-foot-7 Danish netminder now joins the Crunch organization after appearing in 119 career AHL games with Belleville and multiple NHL games with Ottawa.  

Søgaard became one of Belleville’s most recognizable players during his tenure, even setting the franchise record for wins by a goaltender and posting an outstanding 18-win season with a .916 save percentage in 2023-24.  

If Søgaard gets the start on opening night, he’ll face his former team in his first home game wearing Crunch colors, adding another layer of intrigue to an already compelling matchup.
