- Do you remember the 2011 Norway attacks? Well, it turns out the terrorist quoted Shaw in his manifesto - proof that one can take words out of context and make them mean whatever you want. As the manifesto is over 1,500 pages long, you may want the skip the deliriums of a white supremacist and go to pages 742, 1291, and 1413 (https://info.publicintelligence.net/AndersBehringBreivikManifesto.pdf).
- Here is my personal take on one of the quotations in Breivik's manifesto.
- On a much more ironic note, we learn here (page 84) that Shaw was on the syllabus of the Naval Officers who had to skip some of their training because of the Great War.
- An interesting inteview with actor John Norton, who plays Bernard Shaw in the Friends of the Talbot County Free Library's third annual "Among Friends". More about this event in the video description.
- The story behind the dentist's chair in the latest production of You Never Can Tell at the Abbey Theatre.
- An example of why we shouldn't let Shaw's legacy in the hands of people who don't care much about sourcing what they write.
- In this interview with Ray Bradbury we read something we already knew: that Bernard Shaw was his hero.
- (Part of) Shaw's visit to New Zealand is now available at GeoShaw. Thanks to George Austin and Bill Sheat for the generous help they have provided in locating and compiling much of the information in these map markers. One of the most amusing and informative accounts of his visit was published by Isidor Saslav some 24 years ago, available HERE.
- As you may have read in last year's Checklist, the New Zealand digital newspaper archive (PapersPast) holds a trove of information where you can find hundreds of Shaw-related articles. Give it a try.
