The entire timeline of the story spans years, but this version of the character is the first to ever be seen.
The turnaround (design) shown is Silhouette's first, human form. He is about 5' 7".
First and foremost, almost all characters in The Tragic Story of Silhouette presumably HAVE a name, but never reveal it. This is why the series refers to this character as "Silhouette", for what he eventually becomes.
Silhouette is the first person to ever be seen, being the main character of the series, and eventually plays a major role in this world. Through the beginning acts of the first comic, it's clear that he's tired of the facility, of which he calls his home at that point. When free time is given in the yard, he's almost always on a platform above, watching the other kids play as he thinks to himself. In this situation, he could easily go over and either ask to be included, or just join in, yet he decides not to. He will open up if asked or talked to, but he also knows that no-one will listen to him, since they're so far invested in the lies they had, continue to have, and always will have constantly fed to them. He also knows that those lies are their reality, and that they aren't taught enough to think for themselves and question this facade (much like 1984).
Part of this closed off mindset is from the maltreatment he suffers through every day, but it's also due to his degraded mental state that now causes him to self-isolate. He knows how to be social and outgoing if need be, but most of the kids notice his tendency to be alone and think he's weird as a result. He's rarely ever approached but knows how to keep an intelligent conversation going, even with the few adult staff members, which is unlike most of the other kids. The fact that he's this knowledgeable is a rarity indeed, as practically all the other kids in the facility go through their day-to-day life, doing whatever they're told to do, without question. It's implied that he was born with this knowledge somehow (or at least the ability to see the big picture of what's really going on), since (as previously mentioned) none of the other kids believe his truths over the lies they've always been taught, and forced to believe. It's also assumed that he wanders and notices more than the other kids (possibly when staff aren't watching, which is often), though he sometimes daydreams during mandatory classes of oddly unimportant subjects or lies. Despite this, he still goes through the motions, showing up to whatever's next on his schedule in a similar fashion to a real life high school, but he keeps his doubts, questions, and knowledge of the big picture hidden from everyone.
While he CAN be a little awkward at times (specifically when uncomfortable), he is NOT brutally honest or gullible like the other kids, often sweet and caring, but knows when to be quiet and when to speak. It's obvious he's been dealing with repetitive mistreatment for years, as he's visibly unstable, both mentally and emotionally. He possesses incredible self-control though, and manages to keep himself somewhat calm, save for breaking down or lashing out upon reaching a mental breaking point. This is heightened the longer he stays at this facility however, since his mental is slowly chipped away by the mistreatment\neglect of staff, and the other kids acting so weird towards him. This makes him feel worthless in the grand scheme of things, which makes him frequently bounce from sadness, to anger, and acceptance at random. Even in the rare moments where he IS happy, it's cut incredibly short by something or someone, creating a Pavlovian response in him, morphing something as simple and pure as happiness into something that feels wrong. With every possible avenue cut off, he's led to question his purpose in life, and causes him to wonder about his existence, constantly being unsure of what to do.
This led him to become the person seen in the series, ESPECIALLY at the beginning of the timeline. This mental complex causes him to contradict himself sometimes, as even if he IS consoled, he refuses to believe that things will ever change. His words tend to hint that he's stuck, but continues to blame himself, beat himself down, and be angry at the world for it's cold cruelty, rather than try to change it. This is why the middle of Act III in the first comic is so crucial to his personality, because one day, something just snaps. Something within this boy seems to awaken, and he seems to become a brave soul on a mission, but even he doesn't know the destination, though he seems to know where to go and what to do, like he's being called there. He shows time and time again that he can overcome any physical challenge that comes his way, though he's mentally weak at times from being constantly put down in his past.
One thing he's never unsure about however are his beliefs, to which he stays EXTREMELY loyal to. He knows what he wants and knows to NEVER back down, refusing to give in to the different romantic, physical, or social views and\or styles others have, keeping his values and morals above all else since he knows he would be ashamed without them. He's also very defensive in the beginning of the first comic, and doesn't like to be laughed at or ignored since that's BEEN the case for years. He knows the kids don't always mean to put him down though, and as such, tends to let hurtful or aggressive words slide so long as he senses a good or neutral intent behind them. He might also do this for those he does NOT know, which ties into his personality, as he tends to avoid conflict, though he will NOT run from it. Should something threaten to hurt him or force him to do something against his morals, he WILL embrace for a fight, whether that be mentally, physically, or emotionally. He's also INCREDIBLY observant, taking hints from social cues, attire, the surrounding environment, or even from the past. Recognizing patterns or predicting one's next move\action has become his strong suit, which stems from being given nothing but the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM to survive. He also tends to care much more about the small things in life, and his ability to read body language is fairly strong since most of the facility kids are unaware of them, and therefore don't have the ability to hide them, giving him the edge by knowing what they might do or think before it happens. Despite this though, he finds himself unsure of what to do about his current living conditions, since he's uncertain if he can survive by himself in the forest, but also starts to see possible death as a fair alternative for suffering every day.
While that was a lot to describe, he was NOT ALWAYS this way. He became this person through the pain he's endured, as while he WAS seemingly born smarter and more resilient than the rest, he used to be more like the other kids. He never really believed the lies everyone was forced to learn, but was once care-free, and went through his days thinking things were alright. This steady degradation in mental health began from the buildup of many painful events, now residing in him as memories that hurt to relive. These memories can cause him to flash back and exhibit rapid changes in mood, similar (but not exact) to PTSD. Possibly the strongest of these painful memories is of his first love.
Back when his hair was short and his mental state was intact, he was dating a girl he loved from the bottom of his heart, and he would make her know she was loved every second of every day. He would help her however possible, console her whenever she needed it, and loved to be there for her, no matter what. He was as happy as can be, and made sure she was happy too. He felt whatever she felt, and while his romantic beliefs were very much old-fashioned compared to the rest of the kids, she shared these beliefs, making the two perfect for each other. Her pain would become his pain, and all he wanted to do was take that away from his little red-haired angel. To his anguish, she eventually felt this pain indeed, as she was having trouble with her required studies in the facility. These study struggles began to degrade her social life, and she started to have problems with the other kids as well, all of which he noticed. He wanted to help her, but she didn't want him to see her upset as she thought it would destroy him, meanwhile, in actuality, he was dying inside from not being ABLE to help his beloved. It's revealed that something happened to her toward the end of Act I in the first comic, and he was never the same since that day. He holds onto a piece of her shirt that ripped off from those events, and it forever remains a memory of her, and a precious keepsake of his.
She was his world, and now that she was gone, he felt like his world had ended, like NOTHING else was worth fighting for. He was without a purpose, and humans without a purpose feel worthless. He rapidly spiraled into a deep depression, so much so that he continues to feel terribly about it for most of the series. Nothing mattered to him anymore, he lost the one thing he cared for more than anything in the world, and though these dark thoughts were only amplified by the maltreatment and self-isolation, he blamed himself. He would continue to beat himself up, chipping away at his mental more and more with each passing day. He felt traumatized that the one person he shared everything with was no longer at his side. She seemingly did it out of love so he could live his life without worrying about her, but it absolutely broke him, weighing astronomically high on his conscious. It was from that moment on that he began to see everything wrong with the world he occupied, and started to silently question everything, quickly realizing that things don't make sense. He began to see how all the kids were treated like farm animals, being numbers instead of names, given the bare minimum to survive, not knowing who any of their parents are, and being unable to have any sort of platonic love. The lies they were being fed started to show holes and not add up right, he started to see that the "mandatory classes" were the very basics, and anything that might lead the children to question the lies was omitted from the lessons, or just never taught.
Through rising against these mistreatments and lies (as well as many other selfless actions), this boy proves that he was born the bravest, being more rugged out of the remaining kids in the facility. Though he's not PHYSICALLY the strongest, he can do ANYTHING he puts his mind to. He eventually helps many with the aid of another that perfectly counteracts his weaknesses, combining into one perfect team to do what is needed, what they were created for. The boy and girl that rise through the torment to perform the ultimate sacrifice and save their world.
