When an individual is fingerprinted, the prints are forwarded to the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Systems (DCJS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for review. Each entity, the DCJS and FBI, must provide the results of their review to the NYC DOE before the NYC DOE can complete the individual’s screening for any employment with the NYC DOE or one of its vendors.
The FBI makes two attempts to analyze submitted fingerprints. If their computer systems cannot analyze the fingerprints, the FBI will complete a “name check.” This is a manual search of their systems. This process is not limited to fingerprints submitted by the NYC DOE, nor is it caused by the quality of the fingerprints taken. Most important, the process of the “name check” is not an indication of either positive or negative results.
On a daily basis our expert team carefully reviews the Daily Activity Report to look for fingerprint results that could not be read. If we find an applicant that falls into this categoty they are notified through an Oracle Name Search Service Request
