Morningside station opened in 1888 at the same time as the line as Bulimba. It was renamed shortly afterwards. On 17 June 1912, the line from Park Road to Murarrie was duplicated. The line was electrified in 1983. On 26 May 1996, the original timber building was badly damaged by fire and it was demolished. On 15 July 1996, the Fishermans Island line opened to the north of the station.
Morningside station is named after the homonymous locality of Morningside. It was named after a local estate.
Morningside station has two platforms consisting of two side platforms. Platform 1 is for outbound services and platform 2 is for inbound services. The Fishermans Island line is located to the north of the station.
Morningside station has three entrances. Two are from the carpark on Waminda Street and one is from Wynnum Road.
Morningside station does have disability access however assistance is required due to the steep ramp.
There are bus stops nearby on Wynnum Road. The routes that serve Morningside are routes 227, 230, 235, P216 and P236.
