Register for September Weekend Retreat
I had the incredibly good fortune to be trained by Veriditas during the summer of 2026 as a labyrinth facilitator, so I welcome any opportunity to introduce people to labyrinths and/or facilitate a walk. We have two beautiful labryinths in our community: a classic labyrinth at Glik Park and a petite Chartres replica at St. Joseph Hospital. There are so many reasons to walk a labyrinth, and I would love to bring individuals or communities together to experience the labyrinth.
Mark your calendars: Seeking Sabbath Retreats is excited to join with the Highland Garden Club and Highland's St. Joseph's Hospital and the Labyrinth Society — in collaboration with Veriditas, The Legacy Labyrinth Project, and the Australian Labyrinth Network as we invite you to join in celebrating World Labyrinth Day on Saturday, May 1, 2027. This will be our second annual Highland Labyrinth Day as well!
Every year on the first Saturday in May thousands of people around the world participate in World Labyrinth Day as a moving meditation for world peace and shared appreciation of the labyrinth experience.
Walk as One at 1: On this annual World Labyrinth Day (WLD), as in previous years, many will walk a labyrinth to create a unified rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next around the globe.
For World Labyrinth Day:
Our local event will feature Highland's two beautiful labyrinths as an opportunity to bring people from our community together to amplify the energy of our wave of peace.
We will walk at the Glik Park Labyrinth at 9 a.m.
We will walk the Franciscan Healing Garden Labyrinth at St. Joseph Hospital at 5 p.m.
A facilitated labyrinth walk will be held at the Glik Park labyrinth at 9 a.m. and another facilitated labyrinth walk will be held at 5 p.m. at the hospital. All are welcome to either or both!
What is a labyrinth?
According to the Veriditas website, "The labyrinth is a walking meditation...It has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. Unlike a maze where you lose your way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way."
What do I do on a labyrinth?
"Generally there are three stages to the walk: releasing on the way in, receiving in the center and returning when you follow the return path back out of the labyrinth. Symbolically, and sometimes actually, you are taking back out into the world that which you have received.
There is no right way or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. Use the labyrinth in any way that meets what you need while being respectful of others walking. You may go directly to the center to sit quietly -- whatever meets your needs.
To prepare, you may want to sit quietly to reflect before walking the labyrinth. Some people come with questions, others just to slow down and take time out from a busy life. Some come to find strength to take the next step. Many come during times of grief and loss."
Whatever reason you have for coming to the labyrinth, we hope you can join us for this free event - a time of healing and hope for ourselves, each other, our community and our world!
