TEACHING PRACTICE
TEACHING PRACTICE
Pre-demonstration Phase
I started teaching in the second week since the schedule of our month-long journey did not fit with the school's. Hence, Monday that week, I began the chapter 6. This started with "Wave and its Properties". It was easy to teach the mathayomsuksa 3/15 since they can easily pick up the concept. Participation was also not a problem to them since they respond to questions and are attentive in class.
Wave has its variables and hence are related to each other. With that, it has a formula in order to get these variables. The class easily picked up the formula and understood it after few examples.
After explaining how to compute frequency, wavelength, and amplitude, I gave some problem solving for them to master it. I ask several students to go on the board and show their solution. They were well-prepared and had correct answers.
Final Demonstration Phase
I woke up thinking about what would possibly happen today. A lot of things ran through my mind that day. I wished for a successful day and an excellent performance. Upon waking up, I ate my breakfast and prepared myself. It was at 7:30 am., when we went to Udonpittayanukoon. Since my demonstration was still scheduled at 12:35 pm., I made sure that everything was all properly set-up. Truth was, I was a little bit of nervous since I was thinking that no room for mistake in this performance. It was a nerve-cracking moment, but I know I am ready for this.
At 12:30 pm., I went to the room of Mathayomsuksa 3/15 already to prepare myself. First, I had to give some snacks for my evaluator that day. One is my cooperating teacher, Ms. Phoebe Jane Perez, another is Mr. Phet, the SEA-Teacher Coordinator, then Ms. Bk the Head of the Foreign Language of General Program.
I used the 5E Model of the Inquiry-based Learning Kit (IBLK). Since my cooperating teacher allowed me to do our practice in the Philippines. Thus, I got to show them the method that Filipinos are using in our science education. Truly, I was proud of myself and thankful to the teachers that have molded me back in the Philippines.
I started with discussing the "Guide Card" first. Here, I talked about the objectives and guide question that directed us throughout the class. Our Engage part consisted of vignette. As expected all of them knew about the movie Titanic. We had a cooperative class and answered the guide questions fast. When we arrived at the Explore, I asked them to get one phone for each group since they put all their gadgets away when they start with class. It was easy since the building have a free wifi and they just scanned the QR code for the to be directed in the simulation. Manipulating it was easy and hence they answered the experimental table within 10 minutes. Afterwards, I let them answer the guide questions in the Explain Card for them to makes sense on what they investigated. Then, I summarized the concept for the students to analyze and grasp what was being taught to them using the IBLK. Lastly, a test was administered at the end to assess if they have acquired the needed knowledge for them to grasp that day.
All went smoothly, thanks to the students of M3/15. I am forever grateful for their attentiveness and cooperativeness that day. I was not wrong in choosing them to be my students for my final demonstration teaching.
Overall, the evaluators have no negative comments and commended me for a good job. My passion in teaching was fueled more by this experience. I really realized that I was born as an educator. At the end, there was a smile curved in my lips. This will forever be treasured in my heart.
