Udonpittayanukoon, specifically the International Program, have cooperative learning as their method wherein instructions and discussions are facilitated by the teacher. It does not solely focus on inquiry-based but is with teacher's cooperation. Moreover, based on observation they apply high tech approach to learning which utilizes different technology to aid students in their classroom learning.
One commendable thing to Udonpittayanukoon is that they are well-equipped. Resources needed for learning are provided such as textbooks, laptops, printers, and even photocopy machines that are needed for mass production of instructional materials. Moreover, all classrooms have built-in projectors or television which is beneficial for visual learners and the diverse type of learners.
Observation 1: Something Not in the Book
Teaching is not confined to discussing what is inside the book or plainly talking about the topic. Teachers go beyond that and also needs to know how to manage a classroom. This is what I learned with my first observation. While the topic was on Thai, I got to see the overall picture of how classes are handled there. Especially that as a teacher, it is important to know how to oversee a diverse class from instructional materials down to pedagogies.
Observation 2: Integration of Activity Sheet
It is vital that discussion does not only limited to talking about the topics but should be supplied with activities at the end to elaborate the acquired knowledge for that time. Hence, for this class I was exposed to the importance of activity sheet in order to have an active learning wherein students do not only listen to the teacher but apply what they learn through a simple activity.
Observation 3: Microteaching and Microlearning
Microlearning is a way of teaching and delivering content to learners in bite-sized bursts at the point of need, with a focused and specific learning outcome. Wherein teachers do the chunking of lessons in order for the students to acquire effectively the lesson that is being delivered. Here, I observed the effect of microteaching. Students were able to take their time and were not overwhelmed especially that the topic has problem solving.
Observation 4: Contextualized Problem-Solving
Most students see Physics as a hard subject since it is connected with a lot of problem sets. From this, it is then a great way to contextualized problems for them to have a better understanding that leads to an effective way of solving. Since, learning solutions do not only equate to memorizing the whole formula, but comprehend the application of it.
Observation 5: Laboratory Things
In chemistry teaching, it is imperative for the students to have hands-on experiments in order for them to develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as gain exposure to reactions, materials, and equipment in a lab setting. Here, I got to observe laboratory set-up in Udonpittayanukoon. Moreover, I assisted in preparing the needed solution in titration. It is an important observation for science requires a well-versed teacher in the field in order to create a set-up appropriate and effective in learning.
