Wings of Spring

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) Festival

  • Our largest event of the year

  • Wings of Spring is a free community education event

  • Held in River Falls, the first Saturday in May

  • Activities and presentations for all ages

  • holding an WMBD event is a requirement for maintaining a Bird City status


Bird Walks

  • monthly at Carpenter Nature Center - WI Campus

  • additional walks during spring and fall migration

  • local city, county and state parks and natural areas

  • all skill levels welcome




Education/Outreach

  • Opportunities with local schools, youth and environmental groups, and more

  • Club displays at community events

Field Trips

  • Field trips offered, both local and farther afield


Bird Surveys

  • Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas II (WBBA II)

  • SCVBC conducts two Christmas Bird Counts annually

  • Participation in bird surveys with partner organizations


Special Projects

  • Examples of past and current projects include:

    • River Falls' DeSanctis Park interpretive signage

    • Eagle Scout swift tower reconstruction

    • River Falls Library "Bird Backpack"

    • Homestead Parklands "Bookworm Trail"

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteer needs include speaker contacts, bird walk leaders, field trip drivers, bird survey participants, WMBD volunteers, education leaders and assistants, SCVBC Board members, committees and more.
