- Communication is the core principle of any good roleplay server and as such we will advocate for clear and open communication at all times! Remember to be kind and talk things out with other folks before jumping to conclusions or making assumptions.
- Character actions, opinions and beliefs should not be taken as a reflection of a member's own actions, opinions and beliefs. If someone’s character does not like your character, please remember that does not reflect their feelings OOC. While having enemies and in-character drama is allowed, this should never be taken OOC. If members are seen being rude, impolite or generally disrespectful to someone because of their character’s actions in-rp, they will receive a warning. Remember, disagreements make for interesting stories, but in real life we should make an effort to all get along and have fun.
- Consent is required from all participants before any drastic roleplay decisions are made that involve more than one character in a major way. For example, do not attack or draw blood from another character without their player’s explicit consent. Failing to follow this warrants a warning or a strike depending on the severity of the action and will not be considered as canon in the roleplay.
Please keep Staff aware of big decisions you plan on making, such as character death or something that may affect the entire colony outside of just your character. We want to help you tell your stories, and the best way to make sure we can do that is to communicate!
- Powerplaying, Godmodding, Metagaming and other similar things are strictly forbidden and will warrant a warning or a strike after repeated offense.
Powerplaying is when you give your character unrealistic and/or unfair advantages over others, such as always knowing the solution to problems they realistically could not know, always knowing what another character will do and how to counter it perfectly and so on.
Godmodding is when you control someone else’s character without their permission, such as saying another character on the same patrol as your own suddenly runs off when it wasn’t even their player's turn to reply.
Metagaming is when you use knowledge that you, as a player, have access to OOC to determine a character’s action when they would have never known that IC, such as saying your character knows exactly what an enemy colony is planning and what they’re going to do even though they never made that known at any point in time.
- We ask all members to always be mindful of the age gap between cats when considering forming romantic relationships between them. As a basic rule of thumb, always stick to cats close in age range. Additionally, if one character is twice as old as the other, they should not be romantically involved.
Characters are only allowed to become pregnant at the age of 20 moons old and up. Romantic relationships may be formed before then, but cats cannot become pregnant at 19 moons and below.
Young cats are allowed to have crushes and ‘date’ from 6 to 12 moons old, but never as a serious, committed relationship. Younger cats cannot date/have crushes on cats who are significantly older than them.
Cats can only become mates (and therefore “married”) at 18 moons old and up. More committed relationships may begin to be established from 13 to 17 moons old, but only as serious as human adolescents do.
- Scorched Paws works under “liquid time” (sometimes called “lucid time”). This means that time moves in relation to IRL - one day for us is one day for the cats. However, we do not work with “rollovers” the same way most servers usually do. More in-depth explanation found here.
Your cat can age up 1 moon at the 1st of every month. However, if you were busy IRL and things kept you from being active, you’re also allowed to choose not to age up your character. This can only be done up to 2 months at a time, however, as to avoid characters from being frozen at the same age forever while still allowing folks to roleplay their character at an age they would’ve otherwise missed. Simply let Staff know beforehand.
Roleplay threads have no time limit to be finished. However, the interaction between cats in a thread is considered to have happened (from start to finish) on the day a roleplay thread starts unless explicitly stated otherwise in said thread, so for example, a thread starting during the afternoon and then the interaction between characters ending on the morning of the following day.
Because of this, you can have as many on-going threads as you’d like with a character, keeping in mind that they all started at a specific date. We recommend being mindful of your own limits to avoid burnout.
- Scorched Paws doesn’t have a set activity requirements exactly, but we do have a system to help us check with server members, keeping the server well run. If a server member goes completely inactive (both IC and OOC) without a previous notice to the staff of a hiatus for three months, a staff check-in ticket will be made. We won't ask for any details, just to ask if you are still interested in the server. If the ticket is left unanswered for a month, you will be removed from the server. Anyone who leaves due to inactivity is welcome to rejoin the server upon the next opening.
We ask that anyone applying/going into Leadership characters make sure that they will be reasonably active, as the role is very important not only for the colonies but to the server story as a whole. Members with leadership characters that are noted to be inactive without former notice for a long period of time and do not respond to any attempt from staff to communicate will be asked to have their character step down from said position.
