The document below has 3 different tabs - one for events that involve both colonies, one just for the Wayfinders and one just for the Metal Scrappers. If you're having trouble finding specific information, be sure to check that you've selected the correct tab!
BRP = Before Roleplay
This timeline includes major events that occurred before the server opened, and is subject to minor changes as new characters are created and backstories are written. Not all events that happened before the roleplay began are included in this timeline, such as interpersonal events and every character birth and death. Due to this, we recommend server members check the official Server Timeline through the Big Book for the most detailed versions of events.
[Spring 1, Cycle 77. 60 moons BRP] Navigator Nightwind takes the position of Northern Star after the death of Yellowstar, becoming Nightstar. With his recommendation, the colony chooses Spiderjump to become the new Navigator alongside Fangmaw.
[Spring 2, Cycle 78. 47 moons BRP] Screams can be heard in the distance as a hunting patrol looks for food. They run to find out what's happening, but find nothing. One of the patrol's hunters, Grayflame, keeps running in the direction of the screams despite all pleas to stop. They're never seen again. Grayflame leaves behind a mate, Raydance, and two newborn kits, Coyote and Wolf.
[Summer 2, Cycle 78. 44 moons BRP] A particularly heavy monsoon hits the desert. Although the water is welcome, travel becomes miserable. The most experienced weavers scramble to make sure their damaged woven mats are repaired or replaced.
[Fall 3, Cycle 78. 40 moons BRP] Nightstar suffers injuries when saving a group of trainees from a wood fox. His tail is amputated.
[Fall 1, Cycle 79. 30 moons BRP] The number of red wolves is suspiciously low during a journey through Wolf’s Pass. Scouts are sent out as usual regardless.
[Summer 2, Cycle 80. 20 moons BRP] The earth rumbles under their paws, but no one is sure what happened at all. A tender is found dead at the outer edges of Polaris Well, the cause of death undetermined, with no clear signs of tracks, scents, or traces. Spiderjump retires from their position as navigator, and Coldsun is chosen to replace them.
[Fall 3, Cycle 80. 16 moons BRP] One of the worst sandstorms in seasons comes down on the colony without warning. Delayed safety measures end up in injuries and even deaths. Spiderjump was one of the casualties.
[Winter 1, Cycle 80. 15 moons BRP] Weighted down by age, Navigator Fangmaw chooses to retire. The colony chooses Coyotecall to take her place.
[Winter 3, Cycle 80. 13 moons BRP] Search parties are sent out after a patrol of 3 scouts go missing. The body of 2 of them is found, with tenders saying they were most likely hunted by cougars, but they're not too sure. The last scout is never found or seen ever again, presumed dead as well.
[Summer 2, Cycle 81. 8 moons BRP] A young kitten is found inside a small burrow around the area of Sharp Point Well. After coaxing him out with great effort, tenders take him into their care. The mother’s body was found not too far away.
[Summer 3, Cycle 81. 7 moons BRP] Sharp Point well is significantly drier than usual for this time of year. Nightstar decides that the colony needs to migrate to Polaris well ahead of schedule due to the low water levels.
[Fall 1, Cycle 81. 6 moons BRP] As the colony is traveling between Sharp Point and Polaris Well, a pair of wolves attack. Nightstar is one of the cats killed in the battle, alongside Scalestrike and Toothmaw. Coyotecall is chosen as the new Northern Star, and Wondersong is chosen as the new Navigator to fill Coyotestar’s spot.
[Fall 3, Cycle 81. 4 moons BRP] Polaris well is empty. Cats are getting thirsty, and Oddsong dies of dehydration. The colony starts panicking, leadership coming together to find a solution. Coyotestar decides they’ll no longer travel to the wells, instead looking for another route and then hopefully come back when things are better.
The Wayfinders are divided on the decision, but eventually accept their situation. The Colony decides to follow the North Star and like Lightstar once did, to look for salvation northward, with the exception of Honeyoath and Hatchcomb, who choose to stay behind. After almost two moons of traveling, they stumble on a man-made structure where water is available and decide to rest there until they can plan their next move.
[Spring 1, Cycle 77. 60 moons BRP] Healer Headmaster Sock Puppet passes away due to illness. Voting takes place and Healer Spoon becomes the next Headmaster. Explorer Headmaster Shark welcomes their new Healer Headmaster, while Crafter Headmaster Maddison is publicly displeased with the choice.
[Spring 1, Cycle 78. 48 moons BRP] The Spring’s Build Battle falls into chaos as Headmaster Maddison decides to disagree with everything Headmaster Spoon decides to do. Spoon decides to step back and allow the event to run smoothly. Many are frustrated at Maddison’s childish behavior.
[Spring 3, Cycle 78. 46 moons BRP] Cats are restless for a few days as the ground shakes under their paws every so often. Despite attempts at figuring out what caused it, no real conclusion is reached. Cats try to brush it aside once it stops.
[Summer 2, Cycle 78. 44 moons BRP] A big monsoon hits hard, filling cats with delight. Unfortunately, the sleeping dens couldn’t take the heavy rain and were damaged, with some kits falling ill when a leak happened in the nursery. Crafters do their best to repair things. Chickadee is among the casualties
[Winter 3, Cycle 78. 37 moons BRP] A young tom named Fresh Cut Grass asks to join the Scrappers after numerous friendly interactions in his time living with the water plant. He asks to be a healer junior and Spoon takes him under his wing.
[Summer 2, Cycle 79. 32 moons BRP] Explorer Headmaster Shark decides to choose a cat to train under them to hopefully become a good candidate for the position in the future and avoid behavior like Maddison’s. Alfred ends up being their pick.
[Winter 3, Cycle 79. 25 moons BRP] A party of explorers get attacked, with 2 cats dying and 2 returning to camp barely alive. They don't know what happened and can barely explain the events of the accident. One of the surviving explorers, Truffle, eventually passes away from their injuries. Patrols are unable to retrieve the bodies of Knife or the other explorer. Valentine is the only survivor.
[Summer 2, Cycle 80. 20 moons BRP] The ground rumbles again, this time stronger. Some piles of trash and other things tumble over, including the cycle’s Build Battle winner. Although stronger, the quake lasted a lot less than the first time. Some cats are injured.
[Fall 3, Cycle 80. 16 moons BRP] A Huge fight breaks out between Headmaster Spoon and Headmaster Maddison after cats fall ill when new water arrives, seemingly unsafe for drinking. Maddison blames the healer for no clear reason. Tired of her behavior, the crafters come together with the other Headmasters and Maddison is removed from her role. Carrot Cake is voted in as the new Headmaster.
[Fall 3, Cycle 80. 16 moons BRP] A sandstorm is spotted over the horizon and cats prepare to hunker down for safety, but luckily it blows far from the colony. Maddison is nowhere to be found afterwards and is never seen again.
[Spring 3, Cycle 81. 10 moons BRP] In a walk through the territory, a few crafters come across a blue pail and decide to take it for a project. To their surprise, a tiny kitten was inside. WIth quick action and the help of monarchs, the frail kit survives, and the colony names him Bucket.
[Winter 2, Cycle 81. 2 moons BRP] An accident with barbed wire results in Headmaster Spoon losing a leg, with infection hitting him hard. He tells the colony to choose a new Headmaster as he’s not able to provide for them like he’d like to, if he even survived at all. Fresh Cut Grass is voted as the new Healer Headmaster. Thankfully, Spoon survives, but retires to the elder’s den.
[Winter 3, Cycle 81. 1 moon BRP] A misplaced piece of glass results in a small fire starting in the explorer’s tent. Cats act fast and damage is prevented, but leaves cats curious.
[Winter 3, Cycle 81. 1 moon BRP] Explorer Headmaster Shark and Explorer Sugarcane die of a strange illness, as no treatment used seems to work on them. Sugarcane left behind a mate in Jack, and a daughter, Daisy May. The Explorers vote in Alfred as Shark’s successor.
Before they became what they are today, first the colonies had to be created, put together by the collective work of cats many generations ago. The truth of what happened in the past is unsure, but the stories passed down from elders to kits through the cycles have lived on until present day, carrying the sentiment of pride and connection to their ancestors forward.
Before they became the Wayfinders, they were a smaller group, one that moved around but to a much lesser extent. It’s not certain how they used to live or what exactly happened, different theories sprouting from different mouths into different ears, but they all circle back to one detail: their home had become inhospitable after humans destroyed it all, forcing them to take up a more nomadic lifestyle.
It was one brave molly, Lightstar, that led the Wayfinders to safety. Guided by the stars themselves and the very first Navigator, Willowwisp, who knew the stars like their own paw. It’s said they read the signs of the stars and how it pointed them to their mother well, the Polaris Well.
Stories say that at first, there’d only be one Navigator under the Northern Star. That was until a young trainee called Dustpaw ventured too far without knowing where he was going, leading to his death at the jaws of red wolves. A search party led by Willowwisp looked for him, but it was too late. The patrol was devastated, but through the night sky, Dustpaw became the first Starwalker, and led them to the Sharp Point Well for the very first time, a visage of his physical form shrouded in stars as their guide.
After that, another navigator was chosen to lead the colony alongside Lightstar and Willowwisp, to prevent the colony being left without . Many cats argue who that second navigator was, with different cats claiming to be their ancestors, making it quite uncertain who truly became the second ever navigator of their founding.
One thing was sure though. After Lightstar came to pass, Willowwisp took the new mantle as the Northern Star. They chose to rename themself as Wispstar, however, to honor their ancestry. It is said they were formerly a kittypet, a cat who lived under humans, before joining Lightstar in her journey, and that’s why they chose that name. Some cats believe there are other reasons Whispstar made the choices they did, but no one is quite certain.
Originally led by only one cat, the Scrappers were a lot different before their official founding. Simply called the “Clowder”, the group was made up of strays, kittypets and mouser cats from the water plant and anyone in between. They were led by an old, wise tolly called Scrapmetal John, though their leadership was mostly a position of guide to the cats of the Clowder, someone others looked up to and often asked for advice.
That changed when the humans first set up the junkyard. With trash and unwelcome meddling of humans going from 0 to 100 in a mere few days, the group became uneasy and afraid. It was Scrapmetal John who reassured them and encouraged everyone to remain hopeful in the face of hardship.
They moved their usual living space, doing their best to avoid humans while still holding on to the area they used to call home. The humans didn’t seem to like the Clowder very much, however. They started poisoning prey, putting traps to lure cats into eating strange man-made things that could make a cat fall extremely ill, and even die.
Scrapmetal John was one of those cats. Their death cemented a new order of leadership in the Clowder. The tolly’s grandson, Sir Isaac Mewton, took up the mantle of leader alongside his mate Jarvis. The two toms would also choose a third cat to stand by their side, a molly named Cookies. Together, the three of them made sure the Clowder lived on despite the challenges the humans posed.
It was only a few cycles before the junkyard suddenly fell dead. No more humans, no more machines or anything of the sort. Slowly, braver cats began to explore the abandoned place, what little remained of what they once called home under the man-made constructions.
When the cats were sure humans would not come back, they decided to reclaim what was theirs. Isaac, Jarvis and Cookies were the very first cats to become Headmasters, each settling into roles that allowed them to focus on their strengths and balance each other out. It was Isaac who decided to rename their group, blessing their new community as the Metal Scrappers, in honor of Scrapmetal John themself.
