Scorched Paws takes place in a fictional desert setting that mixes aspects from two different biomes, combining the best of both worlds to further the potential of our world building as well as the stories and characters we want to come alive!
These biomes are the North American Chihuahuan Desert and Brazil’s Caatinga, a biome unique to the country!
Current Roleplay Season is:
🍂 Fall
Current Roleplay Date:
7th Moon of Cycle 82
The main climate and weather, as well as seasons throughout the year and months will be based on the Chihuahuan Desert’s! This means that the roleplay will follow the seasonal calendar of the area, where we use southern USA states as our reference!
March - May: Spring! These months are relatively mild in temperature (temperatures ranging from 15-18c at night and 24-27c during the day [59-64f and 75-80f respectively]). The end of the dust storm seasons. Rain is not present, but can happen on very rare occasions.
June - August: Summer! The desert grows incredibly hot and dangerous! However, it’s a very special season due to the chances of summer monsoons happening in the very few times we see rain! (Temperatures ranging from 20-24c at night and 32-37 during the day [68-75f and 89.5-98f respectively]).
September - November: Fall! The heat starts to subside, becoming more bearable for the cats. With the incoming drier months, plants start to lose their leaves to save as much water as they can. The middle of fall also marks the start of dust storm season! (Temperatures ranging from 8-14c at night and 19-25c during the day (46-57f and 66-77f respectively]).
December - February: Winter! The desert turns cold, with nights reaching near freezing temperatures. The height of the dust storm season, as well as the driest period of the year. Snow has never been seen in a long time, being only distant stories in current generations. (Temperatures ranging from 2-4c at night and 13-16c during the day [35-39f and 55-60f respectively]).
Below are some maps to help both Staff and players better locate themselves in the world of Scorched Paws! They're not extremely accurate in the way of realism, but serve the purpose of knowing how far important locations are from each other as well as the time it takes to travel between one point to another.
Both maps were made using Inkarnate's free version. The town are not actual fantasy towns, but we made do with what we had available to us!
This map shows the area where most of the roleplay will take place as both colonies are currently settled in this area.
The time cats take to travel goes as follows:
Scrapper Camp -> Water Plant:
Less than a day. Scrapper water runs take 2-3 days as they carefully carry water.
Water Plant -> Willowport:
Around 2.5 to 3 days.
Scrapper Camp -> Willowport:
around 4.5 to 5 days.
These may vary depending on the speed cats are traveling at.
This map shows what is the overall region the roleplay will take place.
The time cats take to travel goes as follows:
Polaris Well -> Little Prout Well:
Roughly 3 weeks.
Little Sprout Well -> Sharp Point Well:
Roughly 4 to 4.5 weeks.
Sharp Point Well -> Polaris Well:
Roughly 5.5 to 6 weeks.
For a cat to travel all the way from the Metal Scrappers region to the Polaris Well, it takes roughly 4.5 to 5 weeks.
These may vary depending on the speed cats are traveling at.
This is a list where, if needed, one can easily check which animals and plants the characters are able to find. If any animals/plants are missing from this list, this does not mean they don't exist in the setting - rather, we probably forgot to add them or didn't know of them.
We will be expanding upon this list with time! Links to the wikipedia page of these animals/plants will be available for those interested in knowing about more specific details, as well as to help Staff keep tabs on the information.
