Summary

To follow up on the first discussion of the Science of Beauty, the last discussion of the year was led by Taranie Shanker on the topic of preservatives in our beauty products. Firstly, she shared some information about the types of preservatives that can be found in products then moved on to talk about parabens. Later on, some attendees shared their opinions on going ‘preservative-free’ and joined in to talk about the discussion questions. Parabens seem to be the beauty industry’s ‘bad guy’ but is that really the case? This topic has sparked a lot of controversy and has led to the development of ingredients in beauty products today.
