Activity Description: Create the density tower the day before it is needed to give the liquids to settle out. 

On the day of the demonstration have students form a hypothesis about what object will float on each fluid. 

Materials: 

• honey 

• corn syrup 

• dish soap

• canola oil 

• rubbing alcohol 

• metal bolt

• dice 

• popcorn kernels

• plastic beads 

• cherry tomato 

• funnel 

• Large graduated cylinder

Instructions: 

1.  Using a funnel, pour the honey, corn syrup, dish soap, canola oil, then rubbing alcohol into the cylinder 

2. Let the fluids settle out overnight 

3. Have students make a hypothesis 

4. Drop the bolt, kernel, beads, tomato, and dice into the density tower 

5. Have students write a conclusion about what they saw. Include density as a part of the answer.
