This program has been designed using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
What does this mean? UDL is:
“UDL is a framework to guide the design of learning environments that are accessible and challenging for all. Ultimately, the goal of UDL is to support learners to become “expert learners” who are, each in their own way, purposeful and motivated, resourceful, and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal driven. UDL aims to change the design of the environment rather than to change the learner. When environments are intentionally designed to reduce barriers, all learners can engage in rigorous, meaningful learning” (CAST, 2020).
Specifically it means....... this program is designed to meet every learner where they are whether they have identified themselves as having learning challenges or not.
Weekly learning will have multiple means for accessing the content.
For example: having audible, video and written materials or the ability to convert the text to audio. Some of this is done through new tools on blackboard such as the Ally functions. If you are unsure of how to use this, please check out all the resources available to you on the student accessibility center.

Evaluations: All Tests and Quizzes will be automatically given 1.5 time.
For example: Online quizzes that would typically be open for 30 min for 20 questions, using UDL, the quiz will be open instead for 45 minutes (1.5 times the typical time). The time written in the assessment and weekly breakdown is the UDL 1.5 time.
Important Note: All students registered with the College with Student Services for Testing Accommodations that already provide 1.5 x are proactively being accommodated within the UDL framework and will not receive more time.
Due Dates: Within the weekly learning there are due dates for evaluations. All students are able to request an extension on an assessment/evaluation by emailing the professor. All reasonable requests will be accommodated when requested at least 24 hours prior to the due date/time.
It is ESSENTIAL to contact your professor PRIOR to the due date to ensure professional and respectful communication with your professor. The earlier you reach out, the better for planning for both you and your professor. In class evaluations will be treated as a deferred assessments.
The exception to this is end of term evaluations. There can be no late submissions for end of term evaluations without having an application for extension of the term which has to be approved by the Program Coordinator and Chair and is only available for extenuating or extreme circumstances.
Theory classes are online or hybrid with alternating weeks scheduled as synchronous and asynchronous. Select components of the program require in-person attendance, including simulation lab days, tests or exams in select courses, and comprehensive NCLEX prep exams.
Asynchronous: This means there is no "live" online session. This will only be self-directed learning through facilitated online modules which contain video, reading and activities to apply your learning.
Synchronous: This means there is "live" online sessions. For example: meeting via zoom for 1-2 hours where you will apply the learning you completed for that week with your faculty.
Seminar: This is dedicated time for you to discuss concepts from that week. Every student must participate verbally in this process.
Hybrid: Classes are a mix of online with select assessments in-person.
Office Hours or Drop-in Sessions: This is time set aside for you to drop in or connect with your faculty for your individual or group learning needs.
Your weekly modules are built so that they can be used asynchronously or for synchronous sessions. If your course has a synchronous session, it will be delivered using a flipped classroom approach. As the student, you are responsible for understanding your responsibilities in this learning approach. Click the link to learn all about it!
