We get it. You have needs. And you would like to know if there is even the remotest chance in hell that those needs will be met.
If you have ever met us (well, mostly if you've ever met Byron, whose idea of camping is to replicate a Hyatt hotel in tent form), you know that we like to have easy access to those creature comforts that, broadly speaking, make creatures comfortable. And then, to be extra sure, we asked our friends and family who travel and rent houses on the reg what types of things they like to have when they're on vacation, and we made sure to include those things in the house, too. (Let's be honest. I don't need or want an InstaPot. But someone thought it might be a good thing to have, so... yeah.)
So here is a non-exhaustive list of the various creature comforts you will find when you arrive at the Schitt Chalet:
General:
Keyless entry, which will be set for you before you arrive (there is a key box with an actual key, too... just in case)
Ample parking (less-so in the winter because, well, snow)
Central air and heat (thermostat on main floor near stairs to basement)
An air exchanger (depending on the day, the exchange rate is about .75 US airs to every 1 Canadian airs)
Separately-controlled electric heating system on the lower level
Washer and dryer (the laundry room will always be stocked with Tide, Downy and Unstopables products)
Fans (for those of us who need just a snick more air circulation while we sleep!)
Linens (sheets and blankets for all beds, bathroom and beach towels)
First aid and basic medicine kits (in linen closet on main floor)
Iron and ironing mat (we will talk later about why you would need or want this while you're on vacation)
Wood and synthetic long-lasting eco-logs for the wood stove and fire pit
Toilet paper and paper towels (we are only stating this as a feature because we've stayed at VRBOs that require you to bring your own TP... but it might say more about us that we are willing to stay there, anyway, than it does about them)
Bottled filtered water (storage closet in the basement)
Outdoors:
Snowshoes in three sizes (hanging on hooks in the lower level)
Two bicycles and a bike pump (in shed - ask where the key is if you would like to use them)
Extra hats and gloves
Thermacell mosquito repelling devices
Central vacuum and cleaning supplies (in kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room), in case you feel an irrepressible urge to tidy up (we won't stop you!)
Kitchen:
Basic cooking items, such as pots, pans, cookie sheets, cutting boards, pasta strainers, etc.
Cooking utensils and knives
Tableware, including dishes, utensils, etc.
Drinkware and barware
Corkscrew (this feels really clutch after a long day)
Crock pot
Blender
The aforementioned InstaPot (it's in its original box in the basement storage closet but you can feel free to use it)
Coffee makers (a Keurig single-cup brewer and a normal coffee pot, with paper filters in the cabinet if you need them)
Storage containers
Spices of all sorts (no promises that what you want will be there so check before you start cooking!)
Basic baking and cooking staples, like sugar, flour, and, I don't know... salt?
Other random non-perishable food things
There are usually a few bottles of wine and some decent spirits in the wine cabinet in the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom (a big shout out here to my fellow P&G expats, who keep giving us their leftover alcohol that the movers won't ship back to Cincinnati!)
Hand-dish and dishwasher detergent (Dawn and Cascade, natch)
Entertainment:
High-speed internet - 120 MB, which is plenty for multiple streams (porn for everyone!)
Cable television in lower level and on main floor (the screen in the loft is set up to accept Roku or another inputting thingy)
Google Home-enabled screens and speakers for music and video casting
Board and card games (in coffee table on main floor, and on shelves in loft)
A library-in-the-making (feel free to leave any books you don't want to take home)
A shit-ton of DVDs (literally... it's kind of ridiculous), and a DVD player (lower level because whywouldweputtheDVDswiththeDVDplayerthat'snofun)
Random:
A pack 'n play (because you aren't allowed to call it what it really is... which is a baby cage), and a booster seat (both in closet on lower level, underneath the stairs)
Take-out menus (if you order something new and tasty, leave us the menu!)
Maps of the local area
A handy binder that summarizes how to turn everything on when you get there, and how to turn it all off before you leave!
