Computer readiness
Free Microsoft Office
Having regular access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection is required. You will need a word processing program capable of saving word formats such as doc, docx, ppt, or pdf. If you do not have one, you can get Microsoft Office for free inside MyPortal (click Resources).
All CCC students have free access to email and Microsoft tools like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more!
Log into MyPortal.
Find the "Free Microsoft Office" widget/link.
Follow the directions on the page
Check out the technical requirements for your computer and browser in order to maximize Canvas functionality: Test your computer's readiness.
We are fortunate to have 24/7 access to professionals for help!
Use the Canvas Support Guide or contact Canvas tech support using the Help icon on the global navigation bar on the far left of the course site if you are having technical difficulties with your computer or the Canvas site, including Turnitin, that is preventing you from submitting your work.

Dispelling myths about taking online classes, and student resources.
It will take about two hours, but you can go at your own pace.
The State of California's Online Education Initiative (OEI) has developed an innovative set of interactive tutorials and tools, that may increase your chances of success in any online course. These tutorials are interactive, helpful, and easily accessible.
Whether this is your first time taking online classes, or you have taken a few online courses in the past; you will find that these resources are tailored to your needs and are focused on enhancing the academic and technical skills needed for success in the online learning environment.

Tip #1: Check your email
You have two important inboxes to check!
Campus email: Log into MyPortal and click "Email" to check your Outlook inbox. You'll find important messages from the college - and many instructors will message you here before the term begins.
Class email: Once the term has started, log into Canvas and click "Inbox" from the global navigation menu (far left). This is a dedicated account for your instructors and classmates each term.
Tip #2: Log into Canvas on the first day of the course, when your course shell will be available.
There will be assignments to complete in the first couple of days.
I will drop students who don't access the course on the first day.
All orientation items are required.
Tip #3: Reach out to your professor, me!
You may be learning online, but I am still your dedicated CCC instructor, and I want you to succeed. Reach out to me with any questions! You can find contact information on the communication plan page, in your course syllabus, and/or on your class Canvas site.
I also host day and evening "office hours" where you can sign up for virtual support! Check your course syllabus and/or Canvas site for dates, times, and links. Learn more about videoconferencing in this Zoom Guide for Students.
Tip #4: Lean on us!!
