Each week I'll post 1-3 course announcements with updates and information. If we need to make any changes to our semester schedule, I'll also post these in the announcements area.
The week starts on Monday, but I will open the module and send the "coming up" email each Friday.
I monitor the regular discussions in the modules and will chime in with opinions and clarifications as it seems appropriate.
Submission comments are attached to each assignment. I will use these to communicate when grading your assignment. I prefer not to use these for questions and other communication, as I do not check them regularly. Expect a delay if you ask a question through the submission comments.
Including attendance and extensions
Online attendance is not marked by your physical presence in a classroom, but rather by your participation and engagement with the online course activities and assignments.
The following items are used to measure attendance:
Substantive participation in discussions on Canvas.
Logging into Canvas, viewing an announcement, or clicking on a page does not equal attendance.
During the first week: Complete the required orientation module in order to mark your attendance and secure your spot!
Throughout the term, participate regularly on discussion boards to show your active attendance. If you do not participate in the discussions for two modules in a row, you may be dropped for non-participation.
If you need to submit late for any reason, a grace period has been pre-programmed. This grace period covers any life event, illness, family issue, personal emergency, and/or bereavement. There are no additional extensions beyond the grace period. Details are covered in the Orientation Module inside our course
Please contact me or meet with me (preferred) as soon as possible if you have any of the following.
You have a doctor or hospital note (medical release) for an extended period of time beyond the grace period.
You are in the military and are deployed or otherwise under a military obligation beyond the grace period (case by case basis).
Any extended medical release, illness, and/or bereavement may require you to seek an emergency or medical withdrawal from the course.
I will extend assignments beyond the grace period for the entire class under these circumstances:
a technical error with the Canvas system (this is rare)
a technical issue caused by me (these are not as rare...)
unforeseen significant city-wide circumstances (major power outages, evacuations, pandemics, etc.)
If you require technology resources, the college's technology loan program can help.
