Rescue Residents
Not every animal that comes through our doors is available for adoption. Some have special needs, unique personalities, or simply found their forever home right here with us. These beloved residents live with us permanently and are an important part of Scales and Tails. They help us educate the community, bring joy to visitors, and remind us every day why rescue work matters.
Cooper is one of our newest rescue residents at Scales and Tails Pet Rescue, and I am completely in love with him.
He came to us through our partners at North Texas Reptile Rescue. The previous owners took him to NTRR havin been lving in a 4x2x2 enclosure. Now, he’s settling into a custom-built 8x2x3 PVC enclosure—the first large enclosure I’ve ever built, and one made just for him.
Cooper definitely has opinions. He’s a bit of a picky eater and is currently trying to convince me that whole prey is the only acceptable option—but we’re working on it. The goal is to get him fully transitioned to a balanced mash with veggies, and let’s just say…we’re learning each other right now.
When he’s not in his enclosure, Cooper has already made himself at home. He takes showers in the guest bathroom, and his favorite place to sleep is tucked into a blanket under a flipped-over dog bed in the guest closet. It’s his little safe spot, and honestly, it’s adorable.
He’s also doing great with the rest of the crew. The dogs are curious but gentle, and everyone has been respectful of their new housemate.
Cooper is already such a special part of this rescue—full of personality, quirks, and so much potential. He will be a part of of educational program....a new Scales and Tails Mascot!
Waylon is our laid-back, chunky little guy here at Scales and Tails Pet Rescue, and we are just completely in love with him.
Lately, Waylon has been doing a lot of chuffing at us—and of course, we just chuff right back. It’s his way of letting us know he’s got opinions, and we’re here for it.
He did decide to go on a little hunger strike this past week (because…skink logic 😅), but he finally gave in and very sneakily ate some superworms. We’ll be working him back to his regular mash soon, but for now, we’re calling that a win.
Waylon is 6-7 years old and full of personality in the most chill way. He likes to do things on his own terms, take his time, and just exist comfortably in his space. And honestly…he’s just ridiculously cute.
As a rescue resident, Waylon helps show that reptiles all have their own unique quirks and personalities—and sometimes, that includes a little attitude, a little patience, and a lot of love.
And trust us…we love this guy.

Even though our rescue is full of reptiles who need second chances, sometimes you have to invest—spend a little money—in something beautiful. Something that reminds you why you fell in love with these animals in the first place.
Meet Poppy, my very first reticulated python. She’s more than just a snake—she’s a reminder that beauty, intention, and commitment matter. Poppy represents growth, responsibility, and the balance between rescue work and honoring the awe these animals inspire.
Scarlett – Red-Tail Boa (Rescue Resident)
Meet Scarlett, our stunning new rescue resident—and she truly lives up to her name! This gorgeous red-tail boa is big, bold, and absolutely beautiful. Despite her impressive size, she is incredibly gentle and sweet, quickly winning over everyone who meets her.
Scarlett is settling in wonderfully and has already become a beloved part of the Scales & Tails family. We can’t wait to share her with the community and let everyone see just how special she is.

Albino Red-Tail Boa – 3 Years Old
This beautiful girl isn’t technically a rescue—she’s been part of our family since she was just two months old! We brought her with us all the way from Dallas, and she has grown into an absolutely stunning Albino Red-Tail Boa.
Now 3 years old, she measures about 5.5 feet and weighs 7 pounds, with the calm, confident temperament that makes boas such incredible animals. She’s a shining example of the love and proper care these snakes thrive under, and we’re excited to introduce her as one of our cherished Scales & Tails residents that helps us educate and inspire the community.
Less than 1 year old scaless ball python that we wanted to have to show the community an interesting recessive trait in snakes.
13 year old Sulcata Tortoise that weighs 70 pounds. We love love love this boy!
A snake that doesn't eat reptiles!!! This cool snake is super skinny, but can stretch his mouth open enough to eat a quail egg (seen in picture)!
Lucky (black dog) is 11 years old and in charge...has more energy than a pup.
Curly (light tan in front) is a little teddy bear and will lick you to death.
Pluto (white one hiding) is shy with other people, but a total sweetheart once he knows you.
