STEEL BRIDGE
WHAT IS STEEL BRIDGE?
Starting the 2022-2023 schoolyear, the ASCE SBU Chapter plans to join the ASCE/AISC Steel Bridge Competition. To participate in the competition, teams must build a steel bridge that provides a solution to a specific problem statement. Our organization of the team is currently in the working process, but general team members are expected to help their captains in 4 different ways: project management, structural analysis, design & CAD drafting, and construction processes.
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
organizes team activities and facilitates smooth operations
schedules tasks using a Gantt Chart
helps contact potential sponsors and promotes the team
Structural Analysis
makes structural calculations for forces, stresses, and bending moments on the steel
uses SAP2000 to conduct structural analysis
Design & CAD Drafting
does computer drawings and checks dimensional constraints on bridge
interprets structural and construction concepts into 2D and 3D drawings in AutoCAD
Construction
brainstorms on the best way to build the bridge design on competition day
contacts MEC department for machine shop access and fabrication purposes
