COMMUNITY SERVICE

As budding professionals, we understand the importance of a strong community spirit! We strive to hold at least one community service activity every semester to connect better with those around us. Check out our past community service events below.

BRIGHTEN THE BROOK

In March 2023, members of the SBU Chapter participated in some hands-on service activities during SBU's Week of Service. In the Brighten the Brook event, students helped rake and clear weeds and vines to make space for current growth and future plants.

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP

In October 2022, Coastal Steward Long Island, an environmental consultant. hosted a cleanup at McAllister Park. ASCE, along with two other SBU organizations, Theta Tau & Kappa Phi Lambda, collaborated to pick up trash along the beach.

JONES BEACH CLEANUP

In July 2022, members of the SBU Chapter joined the YMC Long Island Branch for litter cleanup in Jones Beach. Volunteers assisted the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society in picking up debris that can potentially harm marine life.

GIRL SCOUTS OF NY: STEM DAY

In this Girl Scout of NY Event, we collaborated with the Society of Women Engineers in order to introduce 2nd to 6th grade girls to fun STEM activities that could potentially spark their interest in pursuing STEM. We accomplished this task by teaching them about the functionality of trusses in our everyday lives. This fun activity consisted of building trusses out of marshmallows and pretzels. One of our past E-Board Members, Pamela Raphael, demonstrated this activity in the video below.
