ABOUT US

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS

The American Society of Civil Engineers is an international organization founded in 1852 that represents over 150,000 members in 177 countries.  The mission of ASCE is "to provide essential value to its members and partners, advance civil engineering, and serve the public good." It accomplishes these objectives by hosting educational and professional activities for engineers of all ages, being the worlds largest publisher of civil engineering information, acting as the voice of the civil engineering profession to federal and state policy making, and funding support programs to further develop the civil engineering profession.  Learn more at the ASCE Website.

ASCE STONY BROOK STUDENT CHAPTER

The ASCE student chapter at Stony Brook was established in 2013, one year after the launch of the Civil Engineering program at Stony Brook. Although our club is relatively new compared to ASCE and some of the other student chapters in our region, we work to accomplish their same mission of bringing the civil engineering community together. We seek to accomplish this by providing all civil engineering students access to professional guest speakers, site visits, community service and ASCE resources. We also hold social events that aim to build connections within the SBU Civil Engineering community. Each year, we compete in the annual Concrete Canoe competition. We are starting a Steel Bridge team as well. We hope that the events and opportunities we provide help students realize the value of maintaining a relationship with ASCE throughout their education and professional careers.
