Samskrita Bharati offers several structured steps for you to learn the Language - NO prior knowledge of Sanskrit is needed. The following is a general steps one can take to gain mastery in the language
STEP 1(A): Sambhashana Shibiram - Free 10 day Face to Face Spoken Sanskrit Camps in your locality/community - No prior samskrit Knowledge needed. This is your best BET for starting your sanskrit journey.
STEP 1(B): Online Sambhashana Varga - Free 10/15 Day online course (second preferrence to the face toface Shibirams) - No prior samskrit Knowledge needed.
STEP 2: Lahari Classes for building on what you learnt in Sambhasana Shibiram/Sambhashana Varga - Participation in Weekly Meets and Contact Classes. This is online or face to face.
STEP 3: (Depending on your age)
Weekly Balakendras for Children - for Children -your bhaaga conducts weekly baalakendrams with Sanskrit language education, shlokas and stories and a fun filled set of classses.
Sanskrit Exams - Sarala Samskrutha Pareeksha (Four levels Sarala, Sugama, Sarasa, Sukhadaa) - For all older than 4 years of age upto 15 years of age. Exams are conducted locally by your Balakendra teacher in August and February every year.
Postal Courses.Exams - Patraachara dvaara Samskrutham Four Levels (Parichaya, Pravesha, Shiksha, Kovida) - For all older than 14 years - Exams are conducted by aksharam twice every year in February and August. You will receive marks and certificates from Samskrita Bharati. Online weekly contact classes are available. And face to Face contact classes are either arranged by your Bhaga or by Aksharam GiriNagar. Completion of Kovida is consdired equal to a BA in Sanskrit- you will be able to join MA in universities with this degre.
Geetha Sopanam - Four Levels of Samskrit Learning through Bhagavad Gita - You may go through this instead of or in addition to the Postal exams. Learnign Samskritham through Geetha.
STEP 4/5 / Diploma in Teaching - course , run by Samskrutha Bharati - Weekend face to face clasess Girinagar. Cetificae from Karnataka University.
STEP 5: Teachers Training Camps - Prashikshana Varga - face to face 10 days of offsite teachers training courses arranged by Samskrutha Bharati - contact your bhaga volunteers for help. YOu must have finished Kovida for being eligible for this.
The following is an illustration of what is possible. These courses transform people with minimal or zero Sanskrit knowledge into comfortable Sanskrit speakers and learners in a very short time.

1. STEP 1 - (A) Sambhashana Shibiram - 10 Day Free Face to Face Spoken Sanskrit Camps in your locality
These are free 10 day courses run by Samskrita Bharati volunteers in our area on-demand. These classes are always run face to face and require 2 hours of your time on these 10 continuous days. This face to face instruction in a group is very effective. Please remember the teachers are all volunteers taking time off from their schedules. The instruction is extremely simple, interactive and highly effective. The instruction is also through Samskritham. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to attend these classes. At the end of these classes you will be able to construct basic sentences and speak and will be able to understand another samskritam speaker well.
In Marathahalli, generally we expect at-least 10 committed students to come together, and contact us for a class to be organized. The dates, time and location for each 10day camp may differ based on the student group. If you are interested and do not have a group of people you may register and state your convenient times and locations in the form. We will communicate when we are able to conduct classes.
In other areas - such as Aksharam, Giringar - Shibirams are constantly ongoing and you may participate in those if you are live there or able to travel to those areas.

1. STEP 1 - (B) Oline Sambhashana Varga - 12/15 day Free Online spoken Sanskrit Camps in your locality
THis is the second preferred mode. Various samskritabharati chapters announce 10 day or 15 day online sambhashana varga (these are not called Shibirams) - These are run over Zoom or Gmeet. if you are very attentive and adept and receiving instruction online with no distractions this might work. If you are a social person - Look for Sambhaashana Shibiram that are face to face in your area , via your local Samskritabharati contact.
2. STEP 2 - Weekly Meets and Contact Classes
These are again are free 1 or 2 hour classes that are conducted for students that have taken the 10 day course, to improve their knowledge and skill. In Marathahalli - volunteer teachers are available to run these classes face to face or over hangout/skype and such media . This will be more formal and delve into bit more details and provide ample opportunity for practice and introduce you to several new aspects and resources. And depending upon your progress you may self learn and go to the next. These will be organized based on demand and student participation.
3. STEP 3 - Simple Sanskrit Exam - Sarala Samskrutha Pareeksha - Children older than 4 years and every one can participate.
Samskritha Bharati runs a Sarala Samskrutha Pareeksha (from Shivamoga) - Sarala Samskrutha Kendras are created in your locality/in your housing community and children can enroll themselves for classes - adults also may give this exam, teachers will run face to face classes if there are 10 or more students. There are four levels to these exams that can be completed in 4 years at an easy non-hectic pace. This is perfect for young children. YOu may send a request to the coordinator if you wish one to be done . Exams are usually conducted in January February.
In Marathahalli area - currently there are two such Sarala Samskrutha Kendras operational. Exams are in - There is a nominal fees for the books and the exams. You have a interest in starting one in your community
4. STEP 3 - Postal Courses - Four Levels (Parichaya, Pravesha, Shiksha, Kovida) - For Students older than 14 years
Samskritha Bharati runs a postal Samskritam course. There are four level to these course - and there are written exams conducted every August and Feburary. You can clear these 4 level exams in 2 years if you are committed to learning. The levels are Parichaya, Pravesha, Shiksha and Kovida. Books/Study materials, Hall tickets are sent to your home address and there is a Fee for each level. Mark certificates provided for each level. The location/center for the written test is usually closer to your home address. A person completing the fourth level is considered to have achieved a Bachelor's degree level of proficiency.
Aksharam Girinagar conducts weekend contact classes for people that take up the Patrachara (postal) courses. Marathahalli Bhaga also can arrange weekend Skype/Hangout contact class for all aspirants appearing for these tests. Please use the registration form and request help.

5. STEP 3 - Geetha Sopanam (Kakshya) - For Students older than 14 years
As an alternative to or in addition to the postal course - Weekly Geetha Sopana classes are also conducted. This we will again organize based on demand. Here Samskrutham is taught using the Srimad Bhagavad Geetha as a tool. There are four levels to this learning also.
6. Teachers Training Camps
Samskritha Bharati also trains teachers - if you are interested have achieved basic proficiency in spoken and written sanskrit you can request to be part of Prashikshana varga - you can reach out to your local coordinator (Marathahalli coordinator:). These courses generally conducted over several days as a camp where you get a complete Sanskrit environment all day. This you may do when you have completed level 1 or level 2 of the postal exams. This is not a hard and fast rule - but it is generally seen that at that level people develop enough proficiency to be able to impart primary sanskrit education in sanskrit.
7. Diploma in Primary Sanskrit Teaching
Samskritha Bharati runs a 1 Year Diploma course that is conducted you are interested have achieved basic proficiency in spoken and written sanskrit you can request to be part of Prashikshana varga - you can reach out to your local coordinator (Marathahalli coordinator:). These courses generally conducted over several days as a camp where you get a complete Sanskrit environment all day. This you may do when you have completed level 1 or level 2 of the postal exams. This is not a hard and fast rule - but it is generally seen that at that level people develop enough proficiency to be able to impart primary sanskrit education in sanskrit.
8. Self Learning
Samskritha Bharati publishes a wonderful set of books for basic and advanced language learning. The books range from Childrens books, Modern Novels (including detective thrillers), Short story collections, Grammar eduction books, Dictionaries, Biographies etc. Visit the http://www.samskritabharati.in bookstore for books. You may also visit Aksharam Giringar to purchase these books. Subscribe to Sambhashana Sandesha Magazine . This one of a kind monthly Sanskrit magazine contains modern day news, views editorials, stories and activities for children, crosswords and language lessons as well as articles and fictions. The subscription fees are very nominal. If you have cleared the Pravesha - surely subscribe.
9. Conducting of Sambhashana Shibiram or Sambhashana Varga
It is said that teaching is the best way of learning more and finding answers for your own questions. Remember the goal for Samskrita Bharati is to spread Sanskrit among the general public - which means we need more and more teachers that can teach Sanskrit in Sanskrit. As a part of achieving that goal - we request students and people who have obtained good level of proficiency to come forward and help us conduct more Shibirams for others thus enhancing their own knowledge and skill. 10. Conducting of Balakendras
If you have passed Kovida: you may be able to enter the balakendra teacher training course and start A childrens samskrit based balakendra group in your own community. You may want to partner with another samskrut teacher and do it as a team . SB Marathahalli can provide you with content as well as teacher training.
11. Volunteering
If you are passionate about Sanskrit and have a bit of time to devote for the promotion of Sanskrit, we welcome you to come and join your local coordination group and help take forward some activities. All our Samskrita Bharati meetings and gatherings, and our Marathahalli Bhaga volunteer meets, regional meets you will also get ample opportunities to meet/greet, chat and debate, plan all in Sanskrit and thus also help develop Knowledge and skill.

A note on School Tuitions:-
Note generally that our volunteers do not take one-on-one Sanskrit tuitions, for school students. Instead if you are able to send these students to some of these Shibirams and weekend classes - they will benefit immensely and will be able to self learn and understand by themselves going forward.
