Majority NO

What happens if there is a majority NO vote on Tuesday, October 2?

One of the FAQs on the Facilities website misleadingly implies that if the referendum is not passed then this would be the end of the process and no improvements to our schools would occur. The truth is that a review would occur and a revised proposal would most likely be presented to the the electorate in a follow referendum.

  • If the October 2 referendum is defeated, then the current facilities proposal does not go ahead as currently proposed but would likely be revised.
  • The School's Administration and Board of Education would likely take stock of the decision made by the Rutherford electorate and review and analyse the results.
  • They would look at the reasons why voters voted down the plan and produce a revised proposal which addresses those concerns.
  • A new plan which does not include the destruction of the pool should ideally emerge and be put forward for a second follow up vote so that the educational needs and goals of our school district would be met.
