October 2nd Referendum

Thank you!

Thank you for supporting the campaign to save our pool. Thank you for your time, your kind words, petition signatures, donations and active participation in the democratic process.

On Tuesday October 2, the Rutherford community voted to reject the proposed facilities plan. At the core of that proposal was a plan to demolish the pool. Below are the referendum results:

When the results were announced, the Superintendent sent a message (see link below), acknowledging the need to reexamine those plans before resubmitting a revised proposal for another vote.

The next steps for the Superintendent and members of the Board of Education will be to try to learn more about why voters rejected the proposal. Our position remains unchanged, demolition of the pool is not necessary for our school district to achieve its educational goals. We will continue to advocate for a plan that results in solid educational outcomes, preserves the pool and is fiscally responsible. We believe the referendum result strongly supports this position and that any new proposal that includes the destruction of the pool would again suffer another defeat.

We remain committed to offering constructive suggestions and are interested in working with the Superintendent and members of the Board of Education to devise a new plan that everyone can support.
