What is Option 5? Option 5 is a modified version of Option 3 that contains no impact to the field.
Option 3 (build new addition in the existing service court/parking spaces to accommodate cafeteria & kitchen) was rejected mainly because of the impact to the field and also because it adds $2.5 million to the budget over option 2 (destroying/re-purposing the pool for the cafeteria)
It was admitted by the Administration that the impact to the field was just a 'guesstimate' from the architect that it might take 15% of the field. No measurements were ever taken.
The official diagrams below clearly show that more than half of that impact would be due to the Service Court alone and the other half is mostly due to the the Kitchen and the Food Distribution Center.
If the Service Court, the Kitchen and the Food Distribution Center were removed and eliminated from this option then the net result would be identical to Option 4 (a new 2 story addition rather than a single story building).
Option 4 which is $6 million more expensive did not include building the kitchen at the High School. The dollars were included in the option but the location for the kitchen was undetermined. Click here to view why this option is non-viable.
Why was a "non-viable" $6 million Option 4 presented when removing the kitchen complex from Option 3 would provide the same result and cost $3.5 million less?
A new deal with the YMCA would mean additional $1m + savings and new Community Aquatic programs
Neither the Board nor the Administration has responded to repeated requests explaining this.
