From the Desk of FLN Coordinator

Continued....

To begin with, the students were allowed to familiarise themselves with their place of learning by having the first three days of the academic year as “bagless days.” We have planned 12 bagless days yearly to build relationships and enhance 21st-century life skills. As a coordinator, seeing how students utilised their Mathematical skills to develop logical reasoning was stunning. In one such activity, students and teachers devised innovative ideas like depicting Roman numerals with match sticks, a calculating procedure using Popsicle sticks and demonstrating place values through paper cups and balls. Van Mahotsav was celebrated innovatively by planting and making collage trees, collecting different varieties of leaves, and preparing models. Students were also actively engaged in language and literary activities where right from recognition of alphabets, word formation, concept of this & that, etc., were demonstrated playfully.

Acknowledging the scientific advancement, we wanted our students to discover the spark of the scientific mind in them. When left to their creativity, they came up with surprising projects. Delightfully, students made a weather clock where the hands of the clock were switched each time the weather changed. Computer learning was fun by allowing the students to paint their imagination on MS Paint and express their views through PowerPoint slides.

One of the emphasis of NEP and FLN is to move from rote learning to conceptual and practical learning. So, in addition to the regular tests and exams, worksheets are meticulously framed to deepen and assess the student’s understanding of the topic. The worksheets allow the students to reason, think, and conceptualise rather than limit themselves to rote learning.

The overall success of these activities could be fathomed through the students' enthusiasm to learn and grow. We look forward to making learning fun and providing children with a place for well-rounded personalities.
