There are many different ways to volunteer in our Children and Youth Ministries. Below are just some of the ways to get involved! If you would like more information about any of these volunteer roles, please feel free to reach out to Amanda Hooks (Children's Ministry Coordinator) or Betsy Williams (Director of Youth Ministry.)
Nursery Volunteers - Spend some time with Sardis' youngest members playing, reading Bible stores, and coloring pictures. You can choose specific dates without committing to a regular schedule of Sundays.
Preschool Sunday School Teacher - Lead our preschool aged children in exploring bible stories through play, music, and art using the Frolic curriculum.
K-2nd Grade Sunday School Teacher - Teach and care for our young elementary children in Sunday School.
3rd-5th Grade Sunday School Teacher - Teach and care for our older elementary children in Sunday School.
6th-7th Grade Sunday School Teacher - We can all remember what it's like to be in middle school. Bodies are changing, brains are changing, friendships are changing. Having consistent, positive adult relationships can be key in keeping our middle school youth engaged in the church. The teaching team uses the Follow Me curriculum to engage in familiar and less familiar Bible stories.
Confirmation Mentor - Walk alongside an 8th grade youth as they navigate this milestone in their faith journey. Meet with, pray for, and encourage a confirmand. You don't have to know the answer to every faith-related question in the world to be a Confirmation mentor, just be willing to be yourself, be a good listener, and be open to how God is working through you and your Confirmand.
9th-12th Grade Sunday School Teacher - Faith Formation for our high school youth is critical in laying the foundation for what their relationship with the church looks like during their college and young adult years. The teaching team uses the Follow Me curriculum to engage youth in conversations about their faith and real-world circumstances.
WAM Supporting Volunteer - Support Amanda and Kaitlyn on Sunday nights with our elementary children in WAM. You may sign up to volunteer regularly or on a week-to-week basis.
Youth Advisor - Youth Advisors build loving and caring relationships with our youth and help to facilitate Sunday night Youth Group. The time commitment is 5:30-7:45pm on Sunday nights from September through April. We ask that Youth Advisors commit to at least one full program year of being an Advisor at a time.
Youth Music Supporting Volunteer - Spend the afternoon (4:30-6pm) as a 2nd adult with our youth handbell ringers and choir members. No musical skill needed!
Bus Driver - Transport our youth to participate in ministry outside the walls of our church. More information here.
Bring a Sunday Night Dinner - It's a big job to feed 50+ children and youth every Sunday night. Families, Circles, MSGs, Sunday School classes, or other groups can sign up to provide dinners for our children and youth and be reimbursed up to $300 per meal.
Weekend Retreat Chaperone - Spend the weekend (usually Friday evening through Sunday afternoon) with our youth as we travel to places like Montreat, Charleston, or Boone.
Summer Trip Chaperone - Spend a transformative week with our youth during the Worship and Music Conference, Local Mission Week, or Montreat Youth Conference.
