The bulk of the this course was directed towards setting and completing a distal goal through setting proximal goals, monitoring, and exercising the process of self-regulated inquiry. I found the process of setting and achieving the goal satisfying as well as incredibly helpful towards my professional practice. Above is the link to my project, completed in a combination of blog and website.
I received some great constructive feedback for the execution of the goal and the presentation of it. It is great to be able to receive reflective feedback and be able improve.
I really enjoyed this course, I found the pedagogy, and ideas behind self-regulated learning to be fascinating. Much of the material was incredibly eye opening, as teachers we often think that by giving detailed, through instructions, we are helping our students to be successful not hindering their self regulation processes.
It was a revelation, and one that I immediately set about trying to correct within my own practice. I try to give my students more choice and opportunity in their assignments, however it is a learning process and it is a bit of a steep one at the moment. It's somewhat difficult to undo a process that has become so ingrained.
In terms of the self-inquiry project, when we set the goals I believed we were to set goals related to our professional practice. I was more then a little surprised when goals relating to exercise, blogging, sleeping etc. were posted. Having set my goal, I stuck with it, but I wish the direction had been a little clearer about it, I felt that perhaps not as much effort and time had been put into some of the goals, or that they had been set expressly easy so they where easily achieved. I had thought ultimately, they should be related back to your professional practice, but again, choice and the self-regulation process brings it all back full circle.
