Wondering what kind of activities are available in Edmonton for you? Or which association you might want to join? We have a few suggestions for you, but by no means is this everything.

Calendars

Sage hosts a variety of activities throughout the month, from dancing, painting, fitness, and playing cards. You can find a detailed and printable version of their calendar here: https://www.mysage.ca/at-sage/life-enrichment

Through Sage you can learn to play the ukulele, enjoy a game of Mahjong, learn to use iPads and e-books, and learn to speak Spanish.

They also offer space and opportunity for Cree conversation, a Kokum's Senior's Group, and a men's shed discussion group.

And so much more!

For more information or to register for one of these activities, call Sage at 780-423-5510 Ext. 301.

Interested in using technology to stay in touch with long-distance friends and family? Consider trying things like social media, Skype, and FaceTime. You can find some descriptions and helpful links below.

Facebook

www.facebook.com

Facebook isn't just a young person's game anymore. People of all ages use it to stay in contact with their friends and family, and to stay up to date on events and organizations they enjoy!

To the right, there is a video tutorial that will teach you how to sign-up and use Facebook. It is a little long (about 30 minutes) but you're sure to understand the fundamentals by the end.

Skype

https://www.skype.com/en/

Skype is used for video calling on your computer and requires a microphone if you want to make voice calls, and a web camera if you want to make video calls. If you're using a laptop, you likely have these things and can easily start having conversations.

If you're interested in learning how to set up a Skype account and getting started, here's an easy to follow guide.

You can also watch this quick video tutorial if you would prefer learning that way!

FaceTime and Duo

FaceTime and Duo are a lot like Skype, but instead you're using your smart phone. If you're not as comfortable or familiar with a smart phone, these might take some getting used to and time to learn. But once you do get the hang of it, it's as simple as making traditional phone calls. But be careful you are connected to WiFi and not using Data, since that could get expensive.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you will likely have FaceTime installed already. We have two video tutorials for you: the first will show you how to set up FaceTime for the first time. The second will show you how to use your phone to make video calls.

If you have an Android phone, you will need to use something else, like Google Duo. This does not come pre-installed on your device, so you will need to download it through the Play Store. Look through your "apps" for the colourful icon on the right, then search for "Duo." It will look like the blue and white camera icon.

If you feel like you need someone to talk to after going through the checklist, Sage Seniors Association has an outreach program you can call. Click here for information on what Sage can do for you.
