I am Nafiseh Saadat, an interdisciplinary artist and graduate of the School of Performing Arts and Music at the University of Tehran (2014), where I earned a Master’s degree in Theater with a focus on puppetry. Over the last 18 years of my career, I have worked as a puppeteer, director, writer, illustrator, and character designer. Presenting my work under the name "Saba Saadat," I have created and directed various theatrical productions, while also engaging in visual arts, including illustration and sculpture.
In addition to my artistic practice, I have taught at the University of Tehran, Shiraz University of Arts, and other institutions, offering courses in puppetry, set design, and visual arts. However, due to the political climate in Iran, particularly following the Women, Life, Freedom movement, I was compelled to leave my teaching position and focus on my own creative work. In 2023, I founded "Tree of Life," an independent cultural and artistic institute, through which I continue to engage with art, creating and fostering interdisciplinary projects.
I have published a book, Robotic Theater: An Introduction to Actor’s Death on the Stage of the 21st Century (2021). I am currently working on two specialized art books, Fantastic Character and Uncanny Valley, which delve into themes of robotics and theater, as well as a long-form story based on Persian mythology. Additionally, I am developing theatrical projects that explore future possibilities in art. My work integrates elements of theater, literature, visual arts, and philosophy, with the goal of pushing the boundaries of traditional performance."
