Road Conditions

Flat dual-lane limited access highway (100 kph). Road surface was excellent. Crossing the border at I-87 was simple: no traffic (it was a weekday), no delays. Stopped by a group of about 20 well-armed, black-armored, scowling U.S. Customs & Border Patrol personnel on U.S. side. Questioned about our intentions for visiting Canada. At Canada Immigration booth, a single agent in shorts scanned our passports and asked where we were going (touring Quebec for a couple months) and if we had more than $10k in cash (nope), then waved us through.

Campground Notes

Cash only. Easy access from highway. This CG is about 80% permanent/seasonal residents. Sites are tight, non private, took some planning and effort getting both into and out of our corner site. Cinder-block house unisex toilets. But nice, hot, gender-specific shower facilities. CG staff generally bilingual and very friendly. Located in farming area, so smells of livestock and flat with lots of wind. Supermarket grocery store 10 minutes away. Fire rings at each site.

Destination Notes

This was our base for exploring Montreal. About a 15-minute drive away from Camping Amerique, near the junction of A-30 and A-10 in Brossard, is a huge commuter lot serviced by a single bus line: Route 90. It takes you over the river and into downtown Montreal via dedicated bus lanes. The bus trip is about 20 minutes. The parking lot is free and accommodated our 22 foot long-bed pickup fine. If it is full, you can park on the street for free, too. The bus is $3,20 per-person each way. You can pay exact change cash on the bus, and then purchase a multi-trip pass with credit card at the downtown office located at the bus terminal. At the same downtown terminal, you can also purchase a 3-day pass for Montreal Metro and city buses for $18,00 per person.
