So, we finished talking about woods, and now, it’s time to create a new page about metals and their properties.
Metal is a naturally occurring material and is mined from the ground in the form of ore.
By the way, about ores:
The raw metal is extracted from the ore through a combination of crushing, smelting or heating, with the addition of chemicals, and, also, like huge amounts of electrical energy. Most metals can be recycled, saving natural resources and limiting the amount of materials imported from abroad.
Non - ferrous metals.
Copper - медь.
Zink - цинк.
Silver - серебро.
Gold - золото.
Titanium - титан.
Tin - железо для консервов.
Ferrous metals.
Low carbon steel - низкоуглеродистая сталь.
Medium carbon steel - среднеуглеродистая сталь.
Cast iron - чугун.
Ferrous alloys.
Stainless stell - нержавеющая сталь.
High speed stell - быстрорежущая сталь.
Die steel - штамповая сталь.
Non - ferrous alloys.
Bronze - бронза.
Duralumin.
Brass - латунь.
Pewter - олово.
Stock forms. Generally, the more complex the stock form or the more material the stock from contains, the more expensive it is.
Sheets are large flat sections of any materials. This piece is varying in thickness from less than 1mm up to approximately 3mm.
Plate is generally thicker than 3mm and narrower than sheet metals.
Tube form is hollow in cross section and can be square, round and other forms.
Structural. Angular shapes such as L beams, I beams, tee bar and channel.
Bar is (as I understand, bar here is any weight/quantity of metal in solid form, flat bar, square bar, round bar or hexagonal bar.
Activity!
What metals I see every day from waking up to going to sleep. + name another product from this metal.
I am waking up at 5:30. What can I see in the morning?
I am looking into a window (aluminium) for about 5 minutes and giving my mind a chance to wake up. (another object - drinks can, bcs I really love coca cola).
I am taking a shower and turning off my devices from charging (copper). (another object is central heating pipes, interesting fact - in my city, sometimes, you can see pipes on the street, not under the soil).
At 6:30 I start doing a makeup routine, checking my tooth implants, braces and springs in my mouth (titanium), wearing my earrings and drinking coffee/tea (silver and stainless steel). (other objects are - piercing or cross, and sink in the kitchen).
So, at 7:15 my mother and I started driving to school by the beautiful road. In cars a lot of companies are using low carbon steel and cast iron for making the machine's body and any parts of mechanisms. (another example - screw, because now I am sitting next to this building detail).
At school I am using gadgets, which are made from aluminium and washing my hands often, so I am touching low carbon steel on washers. (another example is baking foil from aluminium).
After the lessons, I am going home with my mother, in our car, probably. :) At home, we are cooking dinner and watching TV sometimes, so I think it logical to write about stainless steel kitchen elements that we are using during the cooking process and, maybe, copper, in electrical wires.
After, at 21:00 (9PM) or 22:00 (10PM) I am going to sleep.
