Secondary sources as an inspiration for my outcome.
My initial idea for vacuum forming was to create a jewelry holder by using acrylic and extraordinary shapes in my future outcome. I took my inspiration from pinterest, there are some examples of pictures that I’ve chosen. I took these ideas specifically because I am obsessed with modern, minimalistic interior decorations without vibrant colours in them.
Model of a holder I made from MDF piece of wood and dremel.
Dremel that I used to create a mountains relief.
First of all, I cut a circled form from this wood by using a saw and after, started adding a volume and forms on this surface.
I have no sketches about it, all of the patterns I did by using imagination and accidentally stitching in random places. When I finished my work with the first piece of wood, I understood that high here is not as attractive and obvious as I thought about my final result.
Unfinished surface is the reason why I added an additional module on the top of mountains. My wood outcome is looking unfinished, because I have a free space between layers, but after I vacuumed it and noted, that this crack is invisible.
Vacuuming process is exciting, because it has a lot of steps and you have a risk of overheating an acrylic sheet and ruining all of your work. I had only one try, because there was only one black list of acrylic in the workshop.
Steps and instructions.
After I finished my wood mould, I started to work with a vacuum forming machine.
I put a model inside this machine, on the special moving surface and start my work process.
Firstly, I put an acrylic sheet into a plate and fixed it by using jams.
Second thing that I did - I turned on a machine and waited about 5 minutes until it hit up. After the temperature inside a machine became 50 degrees, I moved this construction over a list.
I waited until the plastic became a bit stretchy and turned a lever arm to me, after turning left the Vacuum Forming button, waited 3-5 seconds and switched the Blow button. The last step was to turn the lever arm from me and put away the finished mould.
After all areas of acrylic are dried, I turned on one more saw and cut the bottom part of this with a spinning blade.
