Bioinformatics and Computational Biology have showed greats advances in computational tools for modelling biological systems in recent decades. The Special Interest Group (SIG) is a meeting planned by the RSG-Brazil to discuss a specific topic of interest in bioinformatics and computational biology. The student’s event is a singular opportunity for students to learn about new research which has been outstanding out among the bioinformatics community. The SIG aims to bring together Brazilian and foreign researchers in an interdisciplinary scientific forum to encourage the scientific production of participants through presentation and discussion of the research currently under development. The 2021 edition of the SIG will address the theme Machine Learning (ML). We present the SIG: Machine Learning in Bioinformatics to discuss a sub-area of artificial intelligence which is based on the premise that systems can learn from data, identify patterns and make decisions with minimal human intervention. Greats advances were conducted using ML in omics science, system biology, evolution, and structural biology. This one-day focused meeting will discuss different strategies of machine learning application in bioinformatics and computational biology and the new challenges that are being faced today.
