Update Nov 22: Improvement to event booking process

Update available now

Details

This update enables the removal of certain event settings that allow for smoother booking of events. Specifically, this allows event organisers to remove the 'Register' and login process before booking a ticket.

Event organisers can update existing events following the steps below, and remove adding Visibility Controls and the Register button from their event creation process.

Event organisers are free to continue using the current process when member validation is key, but we recommend using the new process outlined below for a better user experience.

Tradeoffs

This means that validation of a person's membership is removed from the booking process, increasing the possibility of people selecting the wrong ticket intentionally or unintentionally. We suggest only using different tickets when required, and using the Attendee Report (info further below) to review the membership status of attendees.

Below are the steps to follow for updating existing events to this new booking method, with clips of each step. If you'd prefer, you can watch a full recording of the process here:

Steps to update existing events

1. Log into Salesforce.

2. Navigate to the event in question within Salesforce.

3. Once on the editor page for your event, look for the 'Event Items' section on the right hand side.

4. You will need to edit each 'Event Item' you have associated with the event. To do this, click the small dropdown arrow next to the Event Item and select 'Edit'

5. Once the edit window for the Event Item appears, you want to remove any Visibility Controls set on the ticket. You can do this by selecting the options on the right hand side and clicking the 'left' arrow to move them over to the left.

6. Once all the options for Visibility Controls are on the left hand side, you can click 'Save'.

7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each Event Item you have on the event.

8. Once you have completed those steps for each item, there is one more job to do, which is to remove the 'Register' button from the event page as we no longer need that.

9. To remove this, first find the 'Custom Content' section on the right hand side. It should be a bit further up the page than the 'Event Items' section. There should be a single item in this area with the name "Register".

10. Click the dropdown arrow next to the 'Register' item and select Delete.

11a. Finally, to ensure the updates are refreshed and appear on the live event page, click the 'Update' button towards the top right of the page.

11b. If you click the 'Update' button but don't see the changes on the live event page within 30mins or so, you can 'Unpublish' the event and then immediately 'Publish' it again, which often resolves any delayed update issues.
