Litters and Mateships

Litter Rules

Kittens under 6 months old must be rolled for and raised by at least one player character. NPC or player character surrogates/donors may be used if your characters are unable to have kittens on their own. Your character(s) can also request to adopt a litter!

Individual cats can have a maximum of 12 player-controlled kittens. This usually means that the soft limit is two litters per cat. However, in cases where cats had two litters with lower kitten counts, a third litter may be allowed. This limit also applies to characters who were brought in with older player-controlled children.

All cats must be at least 16 months old to have or adopt kittens. Cats can have kittens at any age beyond that, but if they are having a biological litter close to their expected date of death you will need to provide information on who is planned to raise the kittens upon their passing. Characters who are closely related cannot have kittens together.

Litter tickets are limited at 2 per person per month, and will take up a slot if you co-host or your character is involved in parenting the litter (we do not count for surrogates/donors that are otherwise uninvolved.)

Colony owners must approve a litter before it can be born/adopted, but you can get a roll regardless.

Litter Roll Form and Guidelines

If you'd like for your character to have a litter, create a Litter ticket to ask for a roll. Litters are randomized; the number of kittens will be rolled on a 6-sided die, and they will be assigned random sexes. These cannot be changed, with the exception of making any kittens intersex if you would like (remember that they will require a Research Note!)

Genetics and eye colors of the kittens will also be rolled for, but these are optional. As long as the kittens' genotypes are plausible with the given parents, then anything goes. Please just let staff know if you make any changes so we can update your roll to match! Eye colors can be whatever you like so long as it follows our usual eye color rules.

For NPC surrogates/donors/parents, genotypes and names will be provided, but you can change these if you would like so long as the roll genetics remain plausible.

When requesting a litter roll, please provide the following information:

1. The names and Colonies of all involved player characters, as well as a link to their applications
2. A short description of the parenting style of the involved characters, and any other relevant plot details
3. If you will need a NPC surrogate/donor, or NPC biological parents for an adopted litter
4. If you want a full roll (genotypes/eye colors), or just the number/sexes
5. If you will be using a normal die (d6) or a small die (d4, requires shop purchase)
6. Any miscellaneous details or requests (genes you do/don't want included on NPC cats, if you'd like a chimera in the litter, etc.)

Tryouts are not required; players can keep all kittens or hand them out privately. Tryout documents must be assessed by staff before they are released. Players (the tryout hosts) may instate any rules they wish that don’t conflict with group rules!

Mateship Rules

Cats may only become mates if they've been accepted by staff first. Submit a ticket with the involved characters and a brief description of their dynamic for approval. For pre-existing characters please use an Event ticket; for new characters coming in as mates, you can use one of their Character tickets.

Characters must be at least 16 months old in order to take a mate. While there are no official rules about age gaps between characters, please use common sense and discretion when deciding what is appropriate. A cat age chart can be found here for reference. Any number of characters may become mates (polyamory is allowed); characters cannot become mates if they are closely related. Characters must also have known each other for at least a month of real time to become mates.

For mateship dynamics, we're generally looking to see that the mateship will be healthy -- or in the event that it is not, that this is acknowledged by the player(s) involved. Mateships cannot be abusive, however.

Break-ups of mateships are allowed at any time, just submit an Event ticket to do so. Characters can also court each other freely without needing direct approval, though please adhere to the above rules regarding age gaps and family trees.
