Prairie View Lookout & Barrier Lake Adventure
Kick off your Friday with fresh mountain air, turquoise water, and one of Kananaskis Country’s most iconic viewpoints. This relaxed Rockies escape offers the best of both worlds: a stunning scenic drive, a laid-back lakeside morning, and an optional guided hike to the breathtaking Prairie View Lookout.
Whether you want to hike, paddle, picnic, or simply soak in the sunshine, this morning is designed to help you slow down, connect, and enjoy the beauty that makes Alberta unforgettable.
8:00 am
Meet at 170 Valley Meadow Close NW, Calgary
Carpool coordination and quick introductions.
8:30 am – 9:30 am
Depart Calgary for Prairie View Trailhead. Enjoy a beautiful drive west through rolling foothills and into the Canadian Rockies, arriving at Barrier Lake Day Use Area.
9:30 am – 3:00 pm
Choose your own adventure:
Lakeside leisure:
Relax by the water, stroll the shoreline, sunbathe, enjoy a picnic, or dip your toes into Barrier Lake.
Paddle & play:
Bring a paddleboard or float and enjoy the calm mountain lake.
Guided hike to Prairie View Lookout (optional):
Join our group hike to the famous Prairie View Lookout, a moderate hike offering sweeping views of Barrier Lake and the surrounding peaks.
Bring a sack lunch and snacks to share to enjoy lakeside or at the lookout.
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Depart Barrier Lake and return to the carpool location.

Comfortable walking or hiking shoes
Swimwear, paddle gear (optional), life jacket and knowing how to swim are requirements to get on the lake.Â

✨ This is an easygoing, no-pressure Rockies morning designed for connection, nature, and incredible views. Come hike, relax, or simply enjoy the journey, you’ll head back refreshed and inspired for the rest of the conference.
Step beyond the conference and into the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Join us for a full day of scenic exploration, iconic landmarks, and mountain-town charm on our Unofficial Canadian Rockies Day.
We’ll be visiting:
Emerald Lake – Famous for its unreal turquoise waters and postcard-perfect mountain backdrop, Emerald Lake is one of the most photographed locations in Yoho National Park. Perfect for lakeside photos and a relaxing stroll.
Natural Bridge – Watch the powerful Kicking Horse River carve through solid rock, forming a natural stone bridge with rushing rapids below.
Takakkaw Falls – One of Canada’s most impressive waterfalls and among the tallest in the country, plunging dramatically down a sheer rock face.
Hoodoos Viewpoint – Take in panoramic views of Banff and the Bow Valley while overlooking the famous hoodoos, tall rock spires shaped over thousands of years.
Explore Banff – Wrap up the day with time to explore Banff. Browse local shops, grab a coffee, and enjoy dinner in town to end the adventure.
Transportation between all locations is provided via shuttle, making it a relaxed and convenient way to experience multiple destinations in one unforgettable day. The schedule will remain flexible to allow for weather and group flow, but expect a full day of sightseeing, scenic drives, photo stops, and time to explore.
