The surgeon sits at the Surgeon Console. Place your head into Stereo Viewer which gives you a high-definition, magnified, 3-D view of the surgical site. EndoWrist Instruments attached to Instrument Arms are controlled by your hands movements via Master Controllers (Masters, Hand Controllers) after you Match Grips.
The Console has Foot Pedals that allow you to engage and disengage different Instrument Arms, reposition Masters, reposition the Endoscope, use Monopolar or Bipolar Electrocautery, Vessel Sealer, SynchroSeal, Stapler, SureForm Stapler, and Suction/Irrigation device. Axillary Ethicon Foot Pedals are used for Harmonic ACE.
Surgeon Console Touchpad is used to adjust magnification of the Camera, switch between Camera 30 degree Up and 30 degree Down positions, adjust Electrocautery power, select the Firefly Mode, and take Photos.
These are located on both sides of Console armrest. The buttons on the left-side Pod are used for ergonomic adjustments . Power button and Emergency Stop button are located on the right-side pod.
Some important Tabs in the Home Page include: Camera 30 degree Up, Camera 30 degree Down, Energy Setting Area, and Take Photo.
Some important Tabs in Setting Page include: Display Tab, and Firefly Tab. You can change magnification of the Camera using Display Tab.
You can select two Monopolar Electrocautery Modes from Autocut, Dry Cut, Swift Coag, and Forced Coag Modes. Regarding Bipolar Electrocautery, you can choose between Soft Coag Mode with Auto Stop On or Off options. If you use Force Bipolar Instrument, you can choose between Default and Strong Grip Modes.
Place your head into Stereo Viewer to see the surgical site. Do not remove your head from Stereo Viewer during some tasks like Stapler Clamp function . If you do so while the task is still in progress, function will stop and you need to do it again.
You control Instruments and reposition the Camera, while holding the corresponding Pedal, with Master Controllers.
Keep Masters completely closed for sealing and cutting with Vessel Sealer, sealing with SynchroSeal Seal Mode, simultaneously sealing and cutting with SynchroSeal Sync Mode, and clamping with Stapler or SureForm Stapler. You do not need to keep them closed during Stapler or SureForm Stapler Fire function because they stay in locked position as soon as Clamp function is completed.
Partially close Masters for SynchroSeal Coag Mode.
Keep Masters at least 90% open while taking control of the Clip Applier. When applying the Clip, make sure the Master Controller is satisfactorily closed.
Finger Clutches on Master Controllers are used to reposition Masters. You can alternatively use the corresponding Foot Pedal.
Finger Clutch can also be used to switch between Firefly Modes if Firefly Finger Switch is on. You can turn it on via Touchpad and then use Finger Clutch while pressing Camera Pedal (Endoscope Control Pedal) to change the Firefly Mode.
Master Foot Clutch Pedal can be used to reposition Master Controllers.
Camera Pedal is used to reposition the Endoscope. It can also be used together with a Finger Clutch to change the Firefly Mode if Firefly Finger Switch is on.
Arm Swap Pedal is used to control a different Instrument Arm.
Blue Pedal is used to apply Monopolar or Bipolar Electrocautery Energy, seal with Vessel Sealer, seal or coagulate with SynchroSeal, clamp with Stapler or SureForm Stapler, open Stapler or SureForm Stapler jaws after Clamp function is complete if you don't want to fire, and suck via Suction/ Irrigation device.
Yellow Pedal is used to switch to Strong Grip Mode of Force Bipolar Instrument from Default Grip Mode, cut with Vessel Sealer, simultaneously seal and cut with SynchroSeal Sync Mode, fire the Stapler or SureForm Stapler, and irrigate via Suction/ Irrigation device.
Ethicon Max Foot Pedal is used when you want to cut more and coagulate less with Harmonic ACE Device.
Ethicon Min Foot Pedal is used when you want to cut less and coagulate more with Harmonic ACE Device.
Be advised:
Vessel Sealer functions include: Seal and Cut. These are 2 independent functions and each can be done alone. Vessel Sealer can seal vessels up to 7mm. Vessel Sealing needs compression and Bipolar Energy Application. Cut is done with a knife.
SynchroSeal Modes include: Coag, Seal and Sync. There is no Cut Mode. If you want to cut, you should pick Sync Mode which seals at the same time. It can seal vessels up to 5 mm.
Harmonic ACE has 2 Modes: Min and Max.
Stapler functions include: Clamp, Fire , and Unclamp. These are dependent function and should be completed one after another. Stapling and cutting happen simultaneously during Fire function. Unclamping after firing is automatic. Watch Clamp progress bar to see when unclamping is completed.
Cut function of the Vessel Sealer as well as Fire function of the Stapler or SureForm Stapler have 2 stages: a loading or count down warning stage and a cutting or a firing stage.
Tap the corresponding Foot Pedal once to swap Instrument Arms, and open Stapler or SureForm Stapler jaws after clamping is complete if you don't want to fire.
Press and Release the corresponding Foot Pedal 2 times to cut with a Vessel Sealer. This function has 2 stages: loading and cutting.
Press and Hold the corresponding Foot Pedal to reposition the Camera, reposition the Masters, apply Monopolar or Bipolar Electrocautery Energy, switch to Strong Grip Mode of Force Bipolar Instrument from Default Grip Mode, seal with Vessel Sealer, seal or sync or apply Bipolar Energy with SynchroSeal, clamp with Stapler or SureForm Stapler , and fire the Stapler or SureForm Stapler. During Stapler Fire function, you can release the Pedal when count down is finished and firing is started.
Be advised you will have a Continuous Tone when you use an electrosurgical device and it goes as far as the function continues. On the other hand, you can use Progress Bars to monitor Stapler functions.
There is a continuous tone during Monopolar or Bipolar Electrocautery application, sealing with the Vessel Sealer, and sealing ,syncing, and coagulating with the SynchroSeal. There is no continuous Tone for Vessel Sealer Cut function as it is a mechanical function.
Carefully watch progress of Clamp, Fire, and Unclamp function of Stapler or SureForm Stapler via Progress Bars.
There is a Beep or 3 Fast Tones after termination of Bipolar Electrocautery application, if you enable AutoStop Feature, sealing with a Vessel Sealer, sealing or syncing with SynchroSeal, clamping with Stapler or SureForm Stapler, and unclamping after stapling is done with both types of Staplers. There is no Beep or Fast Tones after coagulating with SynchroSeal.
There is a loading sound after the first Tap if you use Vessel Sealer to cut.
There is a cutting sound after the second Tap if you use Vessel Sealer to cut.
There are 3 tones corresponding to count down from 3 to 1 before Stapler or SureForm Stapler fires.
