Caleb: Hi I'm a shouty man! Do you need a solution to getting effective energy?
Iain: Yeah! I do!
Caleb: Well you’ll be happy with new renewable energy.
Iain: Yeah, that would be cool.
Info man 1: Well come to my shop and buy solar panels! They are easy to install and are a type of renewable energy.
Iain: That would be good, but it won’t work efficiently when it is cloudy or rainy, it won't work 24/7, and they take up a lot of space in a specific area.
Info man 3: Well how about wind farms.
Iain: But don’t wind farms kill off birds and rely on constant wind?
Info man 4: Try coal fired power stations.
Iain: Wait. Aren’t they fossil fuels, which is something we're trying to get rid of?
Andrew: I have a revolutionary idea: Geothermal Energy! A geothermal power plant takes up little to no space, can provide electricity 24/7, doesn’t kill off wildlife and doesn't produce any type of pollution!
Info Men 1,2,3,4,5: Yeah. That sounds really good!!
Info man 2: Shows diagram of geothermal power plant
Info man 1: As you can see, a geothermal power plant pumps down water through a hole in the ground dug down by a drill.
Info man 3: Then, the water creates steam, because of the heat underneath the surface of the earth.
Info man 4: The steam rises up another hole in the ground, which eventually gets trapped inside of a turbine.
Andrew: The turbine spins which generates electricity through a generator.
Info man 5: The power generated finally goes through a transformer, to distribute it to homes.
Info man 2: Wait. Wouldn’t the holes in the ground erode over time, and would there really be enough heat 5km’s down?
Iain: When using GyroTron energy it creates a glass wall around the hole, so the pressure stays balanced and won’t erode over time. We found out about this from the company Quaise.
Info man 2: Shows diagram of temperature 5kms down.
Info man 3: This diagram shows that the temperature 5 kilometres down is varied, theoretically, geothermal energy would only work in the central-eastern part of Australia.
Info man 4: But, with new advances in plasma and GyroTron drilling, which uses nuclear fusion technology that is being reused to dig geothermal energy power plants, geothermal energy can be more cost-efficient.
Info man 5:This is because the heat underneath the Earth would be hot enough to create efficient energy if captured and contained.
Info man 3: We found this information from YouTube videos provided by our coach.
Iain: We decided on this project via a series of votes. We were stuck between a few, like capturing methane or making a capturer to grab the rubbish at the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Andrew: We have shared our Idea with one of our teammates' father who specialises in geothermal energy.
Info man 4: And we have shared it with peers at our schools
Info man 1: We also looked at a video of Mythbusters appropriately named: facts about flatulence. We then saw how to capture methane, which could potentially be used on cows as they are one of the most methane-producing animals in the world.
Info man 3: We decided not to use the methane capturer, and went onto our next idea - capturing rubbish from the great Pacific Garbage Patch.
Info man 4: We decided not to go with our Great Pacific Garbage Patch, as we couldn’t come up with a solution that was suitable for us.
Andrew: So we unanimously decided on geothermal energy as it was suggested on the spot. We then began thinking about the problems, benefits and other factors to consider.
Iain: Hold up a second. Should we make an advertisement for geothermal energy?
Caleb: I think we should.
All Info Men: 3,2,1 Action!
Caleb: Hi, I’m a shouty man, and I’m here to tell you about new geothermal energy, which is one of the most renewable and cost efficient energy sources.
Iain: Geothermal energy is cost efficient while using plasma drilling or fusion drilling, it has almost no land usage space, so it saves buildings and other infrastructure, and can power all of the citizens of Earth for billions of years by making electricity cost less.
Caleb: And it makes no pollution!!
Info man 2: CUT!!!
