The -Hydra New German Empire- was a massive, efficient nation, ruled by Schmidt Hitler, the leader of the Hydra party, with an iron fist, and renowned for its complete lack of prisons, compulsory military service, and frequent executions. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 687 million New Germans were ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The tiny, corrupt, moralistic, pro-business government was dominated by the Department of Defense, with Law & Order, Industry, and Healthcare also on the agenda, while Spirituality and International Aid were ignored. It met to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Berlin. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 8.1%.

The once thriving New German economy, worth 87.1 trillion New German Marks a year, was broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining. Average income was 79,741 New German Marks, but there was a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 298,503 per year while the poor average 14,905, a ratio of 20.0 to 1.

International trade was a sticky issue, bleach is the nation's most common pesticide, NationStates was a popular brand of laxatives despite Max Barry's protests, and there's a mortuary next to every New German restaurant. Crime was never a problem, perhaps because of the country's large military. -New German Empire-'s national animal is the Golden Double Headed Eagle, which teetered on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution, and its national religion was German Catholic Christianity.
