Raw Material

Raw Material

Raw material is my own record label founded in 1983.  I published with the label 2 Lps ,  works in audiopainting art, and video projects . Raw material is a " work in progress " for the production and distribution in digital format audio , video , multimedia works

Audiopainting

Audiopainting uses an algorithm of "Qurtz Composer" which receives video data (colors and movements) which are recorded via the camera together with sounds  (  frequency and timbre) which are recorded with a microphone. delay, reverb, pitch and envelopes ). Sounds modify video images ( colors, speed, delay or overlapping or multiplication effects ). All this creates a "Audiopainting" loop with music: it's like painting with music and creating music with images in real time . I made several videos for my multimedia installations , for live concerts and for performances of other musicians .

Thales' dream

Audiopainting

2011

" Thales' dream " : Interactive video created with Quartz Composer inspired by the work of Thales of Miletus with music for extended electric guitar ( guitar with sensors connected with ipad) and live electronics, in a universe created and formed by video of water that floats on water .

Aristotle  knew  about  the  achievements of Thales in the field of geometry, which requires an accurate deduction,  so  he  ascribed  to  him  the  inductive  reasoning  in  the  domain  of  the natural research.

His other mentions of Thales are as follows:

“...others, on the other hand, that the earth rests upon water. This  is  the  oldest  view  that  has  been  transmitted  to  us,  and  allegedly  had been  said  by  Thales  of  Miletus.  The  earth  remains  to  rest  because  it  floats on the water like a log or something similar to it. It does not happen, however, that some of these bodies would be resting on air, it is always on water.  As  if  all  this  reasoning  does  not  apply  also  to  the  water holding  up  the  earth.  As  it  seems  from  what  they  were  saying,  also  Thales assumed  that  the  soul  is  something  putting  things  into  motion,  since  he claimed  that  the  stone  has  got  a  soul,  because  it  moves  the iron.”

Aristotle : " Metaphysica"  and "De caeleo"

Astolfo on the moon

Raw Materials

2009 - 2018

"Astolfo on the moon" it is a project about Sicilian marionettes (pupi) show modified with live computer graphics with live camcoders interaction , sensors and live music ( 2009 )

"Orlando has taken the wrong direction in his blind love for a pagan woman, and his madness is his punishment from God. It is Astolfo who will rescue Orlando’s mind, first by travelling to the moon that night and obtaining the means to cure Orlando of his madness.

That evening Saint John harnesses four chestnut horses to the chariot which is to take them to the moon and back. He sits next to Astolfo, takes the reins and drives the chariot up through the sphere of fire and on to the moon.

Once on the moon, they travel onwards to a deep valley between two high mountains. There they find everything that has been lost on earth: the remnants of fame, prayers, vows, tears of lovers, time lost in games of chance, and unfulfilled wishes. Amidst great riches they find bottles containing the wits of the mad Anglante, and one labelled Orlando’s Wits.

Astolfo even discovers some of his own wits among those of many others. Saint John allows him to sniff those in to make himself the wiser. They then take those of Orlando, return to their chariot and fly back down to earth " .

Alchemy

Live interactive

2006 -2009

Western alchemical theory corresponds to the worldview of late antiquity in which it was born. Concepts were imported from Neoplatonism and earlier Greek cosmology. As such, the classical elements appear in alchemical writings, as do the seven classical planets and the corresponding seven metals of antiquity. Similarly, the gods of the Roman pantheon who are associated with these luminaries are discussed in alchemical literature. The concepts of prima materia and anima mundi are central to the theory of the philosopher's stone.

The Great Work of Alchemy is described as a series of four stages represented by colors:  nigredo (a blackening or melanosis) , albedo  (a whitening or leucosis) , citrinitas ( a yellowing or xanthosis) , rubedo, ( a reddening, purpling, or iosis)

" Alchemy " is a live interactive show with images generated by computers in real time (using the graphic technologies of Quartz Composer, Emotion , Processing , Java and live video cameras and Kinect ) .

The images are  edited by live music and by the movements of artists and the music is modified by the images, creating a loop that changes over time and space .

Chrono photograpy

Audiopainting

2005 - 2019

" Chronophotograpy " is a work on images with digital algorithms, using filters of Quartz Composer, so the music modifies the speed and the repetitions of the images . Chronophotography is a photographic technique from the Victorian era which captures a number of phases of movements.

Eadweard Muybridge  and Etienne-Jules Marey are known for their pioneering work on mens and animal locomotion in 1877 and 1878, which used multiple cameras to capture motion in stop-motion photographs, and his zoopraxiscope, a device for projecting motion pictures that pre-dated the flexible perforated film strip used in cinematography.

H.P. Lovecraft was an American author of fantastic and macabre short novels and stories, one of the 20th-century masters of the Gothic tale of terror. Lovecraft was interested in science from childhood, but lifelong poor health prevented him from attending college.

He made his living as a ghostwriter and rewrite man and spent most of his life in seclusion and poverty. His fame as a writer increased after his death. From 1923 on, most of Lovecraft’s short stories appeared in the magazine Weird Tales.

His Cthulhu Mythos series of tales describe ordinary New Englanders’ encounters with horrific beings of extraterrestrial origin. In these short stories, Lovecraft’s intimate knowledge of New England’s geography and culture is blended with an elaborate original mythology. His other short stories deal with similarly terrifying phenomena in which horror and morbid fantasy acquire an unexpected verisimilitude.

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward , At the Mountains of Madness and The Shadow over Innsmouth are considered his best short novels. Lovecraft was a master of poetic language, and he attained unusually high literary standards in his particular fictional genre.

Videos and music inspired by the books of Howard Phillips Lovecraft .
