Choreographer and dancer Alessandra Ruggeri pursues research that intertwines movement, visual art, and social reflection, with a particular focus on the body as an archive and space for transformation.
She opens the evening dedicated to the dialogue between dance and fashion with HÀ-BI-TUS, a creation that comes to life in the Spazio Atelier of the Teatro Elfo Puccini, in dialogue with Manus Manus, an installation by artist and fashion designer Antonio Marras.
HÀ-BI-TUS is a choreographic reflection on the theme of identity: what truly defines us?
How often do we metaphorically wear clothes that don't belong to us, adapting to superstructures imposed by culture, society, and the environment?
The Latin word habitus, meaning "garment" but also "way of being," becomes the starting point for an exploration of the body as a space of choice and transformation.
Inhabiting one's body authentically thus becomes a political and poetic gesture, a process that, like the creation of a dress, requires cuts, adjustments, and decisions.
In this intimate and layered performance, movement reflects an evolving identity, balancing awareness, resistance, and possibility.

HÀ-BI-TUS is a choreography that deeply explores the theme of identity, asking fundamental questions about what truly constitutes our being. The author reflects on how to distinguish between our true essence and the superstructures imposed on us by society, culture and social context.
The invitation is to question ourselves on how many times we metaphorically wear clothes that do not belong to us, adopting inherited or imposed behaviors and ideas, often without being aware of it. In the same way, it reflects on how we can influence others, unconsciously shaping their “garments”.

Dances for Very Small Spaces was a project born out of quarantine and the desire, in fact, the need to keep moving. It was inspired by 52 Portraits (2016), which was a digital collaboration between British choreographer Jonathan Burrows, composer Matteo Fargion, and video maker Hugo Glendinning.
In the Dance Repertory Class, senior students were asked to look at their homes, the places where they may have lived all their lives, in a completely new way.
They scouted locations for a dance that would not only use their bedroom or living room as a backdrop, but as a dance partner.
The result is a collection of deeply personal movement portraits that represented four years of growth in the Dance Program at Grace.
