It should be noted that the Moroccan Mazagão had its counterpart in Brazil ; a new city, Nova Mazagão, which was built, in 1770, in Brazil for ex-inhabitants deported from Morocco. [see "The common history between Doukkala and the Amazon" (Hadj Abdelmajid Nejdi's website, Eljadidasat.info 2023 :

2- Town of Azemmour

One of the oldest Moroccan cities, Azemmour is located 16 km north of El Jadida and has a population of about 40,000 . From the end of the 15th century (1486), the Portuguese were already represented in Azemmour by a "feitor" or factor, which made the city a "Portuguese factory" following an agreement between the inhabitants of the city and the king of Portugal John II. This agreement came about after a failure of the Portuguese to conquer Azemmour in 1480. After John II came to power in 1481, he made this agreement with the inhabitants of Azemmour and thus took advantage of the power vacuum in the city and also of the harassment of the city by Portuguese and Spanish pirates and corsairs. The contract stipulates that the Azammouri deliver various products to him, including dried fish : Shad, caught in Oued Oum Er-Rabie. These products were exempt from taxes in exchange for nominal vassalage rights and protection of the Azemmouri by the Portuguese. However, this tax exemption only affected the king's ships while other Portuguese ships or other countries had to pay taxes.

But in 1513, the Portuguese became greedier and decided to occupy the city of Azemmour which remained under their control until 1541.

The town is known by its Kasbah and by the Mausoleum of its saint-patron Moulay Bouchaib Er-Raddad.
