July Reflection
Over the last 4 months, I must admit I have sketched countless potential projects that may never come to fruition. Ideas seem to have flown as far as the page and then settle without the need to jump back off the page and into anything 3-dimensional.
This being said, it has been a very rich period of learning, which has fed and satisfied the crafter in me, and as a result, I have explored many new processes that include, experimenting with several paper making process’; making books; felting and paper sculpting.
All of these techniques will inform my future practice, however I’m currently experimenting with the Japanese technique of kneading paper called Momigami. It appeals to me as a technique and a product because it’s so versatile. Once softened, it can be stitched, moulded around a structure, and even, be made into clothing.
I’m intending to use it in a final project, but at the moment nothing is fixed, process is taking precedent and playing is key.
