Recess Protocols

All cohorts will be at least 25 feet from each other during recess, during lunch, and as each cohort moves from their classrooms to the playground and back.

Recess time for the various cohorts has been staggered. TK & Kinder have their own recess areas and since they are one cohort, they take turns at using the playground with structures (Area 1) and the playground without structures (Area 2).

The three cohorts of Grades 4, 5 and 6 are staggered to get to their playground areas. One class at a time goes out to the playground through the restrooms so that students be given time, five at a time, to use the restrooms. Students who do not use the restroom just walk through the restrooms keeping their distance. After each class goes through the restrooms, the restrooms are quickly disinfected to be ready for the next class.

As each cohort moves from their classroom to the restroom, the cohort going out after will keep a distance of at least 25 ft of space away from the previous cohort.

We will limit the use of shared playground equipment in favor of physical activities that require less contact with surfaces and allow for greater physical distancing, and when students in a cohort are offered equipment, the equipment used will not be used by anyone else until it has been sanitized. Red containers will be available for students to place any equipment after it has been used and it needs to get sanitized.

All cohorts have approximately 20 minutes of play, at the end of which they are guided to the restrooms to use them or at the very least wash/and/or/sanitize their hands before returning to their classrooms.

Both, during recess and lunch the personnel supervising the students will carry first aid kits that include hand sanitizer, face coverings, and gloves.
