This is a four-project topic. You will cover color, shape, and text before creating a Book Cover for your final project on this topic.
01 Tiny Cactus - color and emotion
TinyCactus
iPhone 8/7/6 size: 750 x 1334px at 72dpi
This project is a practice of the "Photoshop" skill of blending two images to present something new or unexpected. This project is inspired by the work of the artist KangHee Kim.
Pick a vessel (boat, car) or a portal (door, window), or some other object that has a specific use but is bounded so that you can place it somewhere new.
Objects that are open like a sky can have elements integrated into them but are difficult to integrate into other open objects. It can be done if there is a similar pattern, but this is tricky.
For this project, you will create ten themed images that integrate two disparate ideas or objects
Tips:
use the pen tool to create layer masks
use soft and hard-edge erasers to integrate your files
be aware of layer order so you can overlap images / think of elements on a stage or set that create depth by overlapping flat objects
Goals:
In 3 class periods, create ten images that meet the project's criteria.
Use the tools we have covered in previous projects to make the best possible versions of your idea.
Consider form and content and how they interact with each other
Create something unexpected.
02 Primary Shapes/Forms
Geometric Shapes
Choose one primary shape (circle, square, triangle, line) to create 10 designs
repeat the form in some way to create a design
use these links for inspiration
Use the attachments below for guidance on how to create your designs.
Use this link to see student work from previous classes.
Tips:
Use the pen tool or lasso tool to create layer masks / designs
Be deliberate when you cut them out
Be aware of what is on top, you can overlap images / layers to create depth
Think of elements on a stage or set that create depth by overlapping. The one that are closest covers up part of the one that is farther back.
Your designs can also be flat or not have photo/collage imagery.
Goals:
In 3 class periods create 10 images that meet the criteria of the project.
Use as many tools that you know how to make the best possible versions of your idea.
repeat a shape to make a design

For this assignment, make ten word-art, text+font works or memes of your choosing. You can also make a combination of all these.
04 Narrative - image and text
Use the skills developed over the past three projects to create two book or album covers.
Helpful link - Recovering the Classics!
You will redesign the cover to your favorite book. Choose a book you have read.
Watch the short videos about fonts and check out the color section of this site and consider what is appropriate for your design.
Learn how to install a new font on your computer. (Baylor computers cannot install fonts)
You may also want to look at the page color for help picking a palette that is appropriate for your design. Colors have meaning and you can use that meaning to add to the meaning of your design.

05 T-shirt Design
Look at previous Student Projects for inspiration
Use Custom Ink website in addition to Photoshop to create a design for your shirt
You can make a Baylor McCallie T-shirt for the fall or a Ragtails Tshirt in the spring.
You can also create another t-shirt of your choosing that is Baylor related.
