Our list of notable locations, from museums to restaurants, is continually evolving as we create our very own Remembering Communism map.
Hungary
Open Society Archive
Extensive archive of Cold War records, including Radio Free Europe broadcasts.
Memento Park
Open-air museum dedicated to statues and sculpted plaques from the Communist period.
House of Terror
Museum in the former State Police HQ about the Communist regime and those held, tortured, or killed in the building.
Iron Curtain Museum
Museum near the Austrian border about the history and practices of escape across the Iron Curtain.
Germany
Checkpoint Charlie
Museum near the infamous Berlin Wall checkpoint about attempts to escape East Germany.
DDR Museum
Interactive museum about the DDR, the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany).
Stasti Museum
Museum in the former State Security (Stasi) HQ about government control in East Germany.
Berlin Wall Memorial
Historical site commemorating the division of Berlin into East and West.
